This is an excellent overview of the history of the Steiff Co. Tons of pictures showing a vast history of stuffed animals and dolls. There is one doll that looks exactly like Homer Simpson. But also lots of information on how this privately owned company started, the methods and inventions for devising their creatures, pictures of the factory, the museum, dioramas, all amazing... In keeping with the Steiff profile the book also sports a heafty pricetag. Ahcht

very informative book on steiff the best you can get of the shelfe

When I bought this, I didn't fully grasp the title. This is an encyclopedia so there's a lot of text with general photos of toys from the different eras. It's a nice book but I was looking for a guide to vintage Steiff, with lots of reference photos. I'm tryng to identify some of the older animals in my collection. In particular, a Donkey roller measuring approx. 13" high at the withers x 26" long from nose to tip of tail. It has a squeaker rod, and a red leather saddle on top of a green pad, but no bridle. I've seen very few photos of 1920-1950 Steiff. Can anyone suggest a good guide?
