Does Not Work,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The first Buttoneer that came out twenty years ago did a good job infastening buttons to shirts. The problem was that you could stab yourself with the sharp point. This"improved" version solves that but the plastic fasteners are too short to go through the fabric and attach the button.A totally useless product that once was great!

Works as advertised,

Unlike the others, I actually read the directions and find the product works exactly as advertised. We found it very handy to fasten new heavy black-out liners to our drapes that already had a slightly inadequate built-in liner attached. No, it does not poke through four layers of heavy material when they are held close together but it will go through two layers at a time and the fastener will penetrate all four layers. We have absolutely no complaints about the product and in fact, we even bought a second one to make sure the sewing kit has one dedicated to it.

this will only work if the material that is needing a new button is relatively thin otherwise it will not attach the button at all

Complete GARBAGE from an original Buttoneer Customer,
By Nicerobot (Burlingame, California United States) - See all my reviews

I've been using the Buttoneer for over 10 years now but when I recently got a replacement I was shocked at the horrid quality of the current product. Avery Dennison took over the manufacturing at some point and I can tell you the quality has nose dived as a result. The fasners themselves have been changed to a softer translucent plastic that easily gets stuck and deformed in the buttoneer unit before it's even gone through the fabric to attach a button. The end result is that you may go through five fasners before getting one to work properly and even then it only weakly holds the button on. I find I have to put several fasners through a button before it will even hold properly on a pair of pants and even then the button eventually falls off in a short amount of time. I contacted the manufacturer about my horrible experience with the new product and never got a response - their big mistake because hopefully many potential customers will read this and avoid purchasing this piece of junk.

I used to have an old one of these that was great but I find this model to be a poor substitute. It is harder to load, would not go through the material of my jeans and plastic fastener did not keep the button on for very long. Mine is just sitting in the package I should just throw it away.

The original from many years ago was wonderful and WORKED. This one is TERRIBLE and isn't worth the money. I do a lot of sewing and this is one of the worst buys I have made.

"Needles" are too fat and not sharp.... won't pierce any quality woven fabrics at all... Plastic 'holds' are too short for more than kleenex... Save your money for REAL thread and sewing needles.... AWFUL

The true original Buttoneer actually worked. This newer design is a total disappointment. REALLY wish the true original design was available.
