Editorial Reviews

About the Author

"This continued journey still amazes me - that I get to do this: write a book and share my ideas with you.

"If someone would have said to me you will be writing a book someday, I would have thought they were goofy. I grew up moving about as a child and saw that my mother was a very capable woman, often doing for us while my dad was stationed elsewhere. I learned that if you want to learn something or to go somewhere, then you just do it. My mother raised my sister and me to be strong and independent. Maybe we should have learned a little more that it is okay to ask for help - that is still hard for me to do. My husband was in the Army so again I moved about with our family. I think it was a good lesson on making the best of a place as well as making do with what you have. Necessity IS the mother of invention!

"For me, creating and stitching is the main way I express myself. At one time if I was asked to tell someone about myself, I would have presented something I had made, for I do put myself into my projects and that is how I saw myself. Today though I would say I am a lucky gal to live where I do and work with what inspires me. I love to be in my old house and most of what I create fits right here. I live surrounded with most of my family nearby, great friends and a great church community in a wonderful small old town in Missouri. I feel especially blessed this year since there has been such terrible natural disaster around the world and I have been, fortunately, safe and sound.

"I get to travel, do workshops and spend time with those who take them. I get to create new things and have a place to show them. I don't think I could ask for much more!"

i wanted this book because I love blue--Maggie has some wonderful 'blue' projects in this book-- I've had to order the 'indigo' fabrics as there isn't anyplace nearby with the 'right' blues, but--I've already done a couple of the projects and am well pleased.

This book contains a wonderful variety of projects. I think my favorite are the pin cushions esp. the strawberry (on the cover). The quality of all of her books is good, too, with wonderful pictures and easy to follow supply lists and instructions. I own all of her books and haven't found any that I could part with.

If you like rummaging through junk shops, sewing and have an appreciation for the hand crafted then you might like this primitive folksy styled book. Great photography shows the projects in an old American home decor which gives you ideas of how to incorporate items into your own home. There is a blue theme for these project but don't let that put you off. There are cushions and pillows, large bed covers or little pincushions among other projects. The diagrams are un-intimidating being hand drawn and all easy to follow with the instructions alongside. A range of sewing skills: from patchwork, wool applique, simplistic crewel embroidery, but everything is adaptable, it's the simple but beautiful designs inspired by nature which are charming. And as this is primitive styling, perfection is not a requirement. There is a mix of machine and hand worked projects and if the style is appealing then I would recommend you buy this book, it's inspiring and one I will definitely come back to time and again, it's just sparked so many ideas. And if you already have some of Maggie's other books then you just have to get this one to add to the collection!

This is another great book filled with beautiful pictures and great projects. I bought it mainly to have all of her books. Once it arrived I knew I would make many of the projects. This book includes directions for a wool rug done in strips. It is easy and makes up quickly. Looks great I made two!
