2.0 out of 5 stars title of review
The biggest surprise about this band is that they're not on a major label, considering the glossy production and the direction of emo they're following in, removing it entirely from the context of hardcore, indie rock, and even the poppiest punk, until they're left with something homogenous enough to be played on commercial radio between Hoobastank and Linkin Park. They...

In this age of popular "screamo" music influenced by MTV 2 and ignorant music listeners, it is hard to find a band that is so outlandishly unique that there album is better on pure differnece alone. Kaddisfly's "buy our intention and we'll buy you a unicorn" is that unique album. Trying to classify them in one genre alone is naive. The styles range from progressive to experimental to indie to smooth jazz to "weather channel esque" melodies...etc. I would highlight each track's beauty but there is so much depth to each song that is unmeasurable. Kudos to these guys and their producer for making one of the most incredible albums that has reached my ears in a while

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars means a lot..., March 5, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
I regard Five Stars as the biggest compliment you can give to an album. An album that encapcuates what music is all about...One that is always at the back of your mind. It reminds you how powerful music can be. This is exactly what this album does for me, but more. I preordered it, not expected anything at all. I even listened to it a few times and only liked a few tracks, dismissing it as some mediocere release by another indie band. But then you start to get it. Song by song, instrument by vocal, you start to realize, this is it! The lyrics, the art, the emotions, the songwriting, they all connect, and you have a piece of art nothing short of incredible. A review won't do this justice, but if you are willing to be patient and just listen, you'll get an album that gives you chills everytime you hear it. Each song is incredible. Heck, even a year from first listening to it, I'm finding new things I love about with each listen. I won't go into details about the actual style, and compare Kaddisfly to other bands, because they are just Kaddisfly. Anyone who doesn't like this cd just doesn't get it, or hasn't listened to it enough. And for this band, this release is just the beggining. Game Over music: Buy Our Intention, We'll Buy You A Unicorn is here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, best in my collection!, February 5, 2006
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
Wow, I'm very impressed with this effort. I'd heard of Kaddisfly a couple of years ago with their singles Midnight in Shanghai, Manhattan Loves You, and Vacation on an Invisible Plane. When the new album dropped I rushed to pick it up hoping it would live up to those singles. I found out their new material was much better than before and now this CD is the most favored in my collection. Tracks like "For the Ejection of Rest, They'll Dance", and "Five Years from a Carpenter's Eye" show great songwriting skills and production. The album's two most "mainstream" singles, "New Moon Over Swift Water" and "La Primera Natural Disaster" are catchy, well-written, well-produced tracks that I listen to over and over again. "Set Sail the Prairie" and "Eres Tremulent" are also great tracks. Go ahead and pick this album up, it's great. If you like Incubus sounds, they're close, with better lyrics and production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow this is insane.., October 14, 2005
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
This album is unbelievably good. If you like dredg definitely check these guys out because they follow a similar style of music. The singers voice for Kaddisfly is very different but the music style is similar.

Best Tracks: La Primera Natural Disaster, Message to the Flat Earth Society, Eres Tremulent, Osmosis in C, Five Tears, Set Sail the Prairie

4.0 out of 5 stars Refeshing, March 27, 2005
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
The other night, Kaddisfly was supposed to play a show at a small club in Provo, UT. My friends I showed up a few minutes before the show was to start. The place was completely dark and empty. As we were standing around, a van with a trailer on it pulled up to us. Much to our surprise it was the band. Turns out the club owner just totally dogged them. My friends I hung out with the guys while they looked for a place to play. Five of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I offered my garage as a possible venue...and they would have done it, but they found a comedy club nearby where they could play. They were by far the best band there, but they only played a twenty-minute set to a handful of people to kick off the show. Flawless performance. My point is that it's refreshing to hear such a unique and talented band in a time of cookie-cutter "punk" bands. They actually care about the music they play, and put something into it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet ingenuity, May 26, 2005
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
Inspirational, divine, excellent musicianship. Anyone who doesn't give this the patience it deserves, probably doesn't deserve to understand it's message. This music transcends the conventional and linear mindframe which music has occupied for so many years and which mass marketing in music wants you to have. It seems like the music industry doesn't want you to think; most songs have to be singingable within the first 30 seconds of your initial listen or they don't get produced. This music wasn't built to sell, and thank God. It's not Pseudo-Intellectual prog rock and it's not like anything else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another story... another day., May 12, 2009
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
When I listen to music, I want to hear something that will arouse the senses. Something that makes a person appreciate the sounds of all the individual instruments playing a medley, which invokes human emotion in the form of songs. Thank goodness I listened to Kaddisfly. This band not only exceeded my expectations, but set them higher. The way that the music SOUNDS and FEELS is unique to Kaddisfly, since they want to infuse the arts with rock. This album is great. The lyrics are wonderful and inspiring, which seems to be the true goal of the band, INSPIRE. My favorite track would have to be #15, Horses Galloping on Sail Boats. This song just has that epic rock feel to it. Overall, this is a great CD from a band that continues to impress. If one likes rock of any kind, and just likes music overall, Kaddisfly is a no-brainer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe I held out for so long, December 16, 2007
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
Kaddisfly is a band that's generated a lot of buzz as of late. It seemed that everyone was vouching for them because they have this awesome sound, that encompasses many different sounds. I did hold out on listening to them for a while, but when I finally heard Buy Our Intention..., I couldn't believe how far beyond my expectations it went. There is something here for everyone, and it's hard for me to believe that anyone with a soul could dislike every song. There are moments of pure energy, and artistic expression that hasn't been heard in a new band for quite some time. I hate comparing them to other bands, but the vocalist has an uncanny resemblance (in sound) to Incubus's Brandon Boyd. Personally I think this singer has a firmer grasp on his vocal abilities, and is a better writer (more "educated" poetry, if that makes sense). The songs deal with nature, spirituality, and mind. This is not that mainstream people, but in a better world it would be.

Male "Male" (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
I had first heard Kaddisfly through a demo.....an aweomse demo, I might add. However, when I got to that one track on the whole CD, Kaddisfly's song (which was New Moon.... by the way) I could've sworn that I had heard the song before. I thought about it but I came to realize that I never had. The only reason it sounded so familiar was because the sound had the feel of an environment that agrees with all of your sences. It painted a mental picture of a place that was your own and the sounds were as if you yourself had created them. I was blown away. I went out right away and bought that album. I was amazed by what I heard. It was even better than what I could've imagined. The entire CD was diverse. There's a song on this album for everyone in the family. Ever since, there has not been one person I introduced to this band that hasn't agreed with me. This band not only incorperates music into their art, but in a successful attempt to appeal to every sense possible, Kaddisfly inlcudes visual art to complement the audio potrion of the album. True art appeals to as many senses as possible and Kaddisfly, as artists, try to do just that. You can almost take the music comming out of the speakers.
The most important aspect, I believe, there is to Kaddisfly, is the aspect of their messages. The lyrics contain messages that have been removed from our society and need very much to be reintroduced. There are messages of love, peace, understanding, forgiveness, and happiness saturating the songs on this album. I truly believe that these messages need to be exposed to the world and who better than Kaddisfly to do it?

5.0 out of 5 stars So flippin' good!, November 25, 2005
This review is from: Buy Our Intention We'll Buy You a Unicorn (Audio CD)
Seriously! This album is one of those rare treasures you just find and cherish all your life! I discovered these guys by surfing specific genres on a music website. I found a certain band whose genre's were listed as "Rock/progressional/experimental" which is in my oppinion one of the perfect combinations! Kaddisfly is an incredible band who isn't tied down by any specific genres and each and every song they've ever written is in no way a copy of anyone elses or their own songs. It still amazes me everytime I listen to this CD how so diverse and different each song is from eachother. Even some songs change so much within themselves it's astounding. Being a giant fan of Progressive Rock, you can imagine how joyous I was and am whenever I listen to this CD. It also amazes me how exceptionally great each song is, since they're all so different. Each and every band member is brilliantly talented and passionate and it shows. This CD is seriously something to be treasured forever and I plan to do just that, hopfully I convinced you to do so as well. By the way, many people compare these guys to Dredg and well... Kaddifly is so much better than Dredg. Dredg is good and all, don't get me wrong, but Kaddisfly kicks Dredg out of the water! No joke! It's very comforting to see that this world still has a place for TRUE progressive rock. I highly recommend this album.
Peace,
Ty
