THE CELEBRATED RENAISSANCE BAND,

This review is from: Buzz Buzz Buzzzzzz 1 (Audio CD)
This CD has gotten great reviews - for example,"All Music Guide" said it was "A wild compilation of 25 rare psychedelic instrumentals....a must have"- so I don't feel that I need to add much. Consider this contribution to be more in the way of liner notes. In 1965, Jerome Wheeler, John Mathis (John Evan West) and I founded The Celebrated Renaissance Band in Columbia, Missouri. Shortly thereafter, we were joined by Jim Eaves and for a decade, toured extensively in the USA, playing what we called "Psychedelic Old Time Music". We used traditional instruments in the context of what was then coming to be known as "psychedelic" music. The cut included on this CD, "Vibration 2.2" is a good sample of our sound. "Reverb Central" reviewing "Vibration 2.2" said:"a catchy rythmn thing with a very nice lead melody....very cool." The instrumentation of this cut is 5-string banjo(Dan William Peek); guitar(Jerome Wheeler); harmonica (John Mathis),bass(Jim Eaves); drums (studio). The composition was first released in 1969,as a single, on Lion Records (BMI). All four original members of the band are still active in the arts and music. Dan William Peek is the author of "To The Point: The Story of Darts in America" (ISBN1891708236); Jerome Wheeler is a well known perfomance artist and songwriter whose tunes have been recorded by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils and other major recording artists. John Mathis and Jim Eaves both live in the Los Angeles area and are active as musicians. A CD of remastered studio and live recordings of the Celebrated Renaissance Band is expected to be released late in 2003.
