5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing else like this out there..., July 31, 2006
By 2Deep (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
Subdued, elegant, and continually surprising, this release may be the best thing yet to come from Ben Watt since EBTG went on extended hiatus. Heck, it may be his best thing even if you do factor in the EBTG stuff. This is the work of a very confident DJ with his own unique aesthetic. Watt has always had a reverence for moody, introspective electronics, but here he lets it off the leash and really delves deep. Bells, lush rhodes piano, raindrops, and detached urban monologues add dimension to a selection of tracks that all speak the same language - i.e., crystal-clear synths and spare but relentless drum programming - albeit in different dialects. Of course it's danceable, but it's also music for thinking, for remembering. Hard to choose highlights here, but don't miss Jussi Pekka's "Stereointerleaved" and Madoka's delicious "Metomotional", which feels a lot like Underworld's classic "Dirty Epic", only without the bombast. Kudos to Ben Watt for putting so much into his label and this first-rate mix. Highly, highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars tastes change in time, July 11, 2006
This cd is the best yet from the buzzin fly series. Much more techy dubbed out electro stuff than the deep house grooves he was putting out with lazy dog. Trust me, I love the lazy dog stuff w/ jay hannan but here on this cd, you get a feel for the growth and depth ben has aquired for music and the way he presents it in his set. I will finally see him live this month in Denver. This is a very good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't pass this one up, October 5, 2006
This album almost has it's own genre. It is as if trance and techno met a rock like beat. I slept on this album at first but got lost in it on a second listen. This is about as far away from deep dish as you can get without passing out of the techno genre. Tracks 2, 3 & 7 are all hot.

This CD was a real disappointment after Buzzin' Fly 2. It was not awful, but nothing out of the ordinary, and in fact rather boring. Read more
