Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, the elder brothers and sisters of all that other welsh folk rock-pop you hear about (super furry animals etc) have a long and proud history to flash about at appropriate intervals; Bwyd Time is one of the highlights. Whilst there are bizarre moments (the title track, for example, is slightly embarrassing when it starts blasting out of your stereo), they never reach the point of being inaccessible, and there are some great mainstream-sounding moments in the form of 'paid cheto ar pam', as well as the superb and unmissable beatles-esque instrumental 'oraphis yn delphie'. Everyone should own a copy of this album. The japanese import comes with the bizarre 7 minutes of 'impressionistic soundscape', which doesn't really justify the cost of importing, but seeing as you can't get this album anywhere else, i recommend you phone your bank manager right now. go on.

a fantastic record, moody and varied. one pf the nest releases in a pretty impressive catalog. i saw gorky's live last year and they did not dissapoint. fans of melodic folke psyche could do worse than to shell out.

Although Gorky's Zygotic Mynci is not very well known in the US I seemed to have come across them and was amazed by their music. Gorky's combines guitar, piano, horns and strings to create a great sound and catchy songs similar to pop and folk. They have often been compared to Super Furry Animals, another Welsh band, but if you hear Gorky's music you can find that it is more upbeat and has a light humor to it. Even though many songs are in Welsh it is still easy to become addicted to the ablum.
