About the Author

Greg Olsen was the third private citizen to orbit the earth on the International Space Station (ISS). After training for five months (900 hours) at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Moscow, he launched on a Russian Soyuz rocket TMA-7 on October 1, 2005 with Cosmonaut Valeri Tokarev and Astronaut Bill McArthur (Expedition 12). He then docked to the ISS on October 3, and returned to earth on Soyuz TMA-6 on October 11 with Cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev and Astronaut John Phillips (Expedition 11). He performed more than 150 orbits of the earth and logged almost 4 million miles of weightless travel during his 10 days in space. After an illustrious career as a research scientist and entrepreneur, Greg is now president of GHO Ventures in Princeton, NJ where he manages his “angel” investments. Greg received a BS Physics (1966), a BSEE and MS Physics (1968) from Fairleigh Dickinson University, then was awarded a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Virginia (1971). Greg founded EPITAXX, a fiber-optic detector manufacturer in 1984 together with Vladimir Ban. It was sold in 1990 for $12 million. He then founded Sensors Unlimited, a near-infrared camera manufacturer in 1992 with Marshall Cohen. Sensors was sold to Finisar Corp. for $600 million in 2000, repurchased by the management team in 2002 for $6 million, then sold again to Goodrich, Corp. in 2005 for $60 million. Greg is currently “Entrepreneur in Residence” at Princeton University

Everything that can possibly go wrong, will. Gregory H Olsen shows you what to do about it. He made it up into the sky because and only because his unusual and excellent ability to connect, identify the problem and redirect the future towards outcomes desired by human being, not inhuman system of procedures. Often, the first impressions is the whole capital of a person, and you are ill advised to neglect your initial hunches - this is at least some of the life-experience wisdom of a technology pioneer. He stepped out of his comfort zone - and did the best thing he could ever done as the "regular" and "safe" business failed like dead flies while his people delivered cutting edge innovations. Ideas and visions of human heart ("dreams") is what makes this universe livable. The moment you lose them you live in a walking nightmare. But even if you step on dog's bleep...there is always a way how to thrive - even on this far out experience.

The author conveys in a simple, witty and easy to read narrative that even an average person can make it if he believes in himself and doesn't let discouragements get in the way. He demonstrates the formula for success through his own life experiences. His curiosity, focus, hard work, determination, flexibility and open mindedness helped him achieve the things he desired.
As he states in his book, sometimes you have to lose to win. At times, you have to give up a little or pull back from your demands in order to get where you want to be.
Dr Olsen's personality, insight and appetite for challenges helped him explore new horizons and fulfill his passion to travel into space.

Olsen writes his own account of rising from a problem student at school to a phenomenal entrepreneur and space explorer. He was no tourist on the ride! He actively participated and was a member of the team of the remarkable scientists and space explorers on the trip. Truly inspirational and a book at any scientist or budding entrepreneur MUST read. If you read one book this year THIS IS IT.
