Forged in the fires of personal loss and tempered by the inspiration of overcoming, Jennifer DeFrayne has crafted musical gold from the lead of life's challenges. Her sensitive piano melodies reflect a range of heartfelt emotions, from wistful remembrances to hope-filled dreams, and more. Produced by renowned Australian pianist Fiona Joy and Grammy winning Windham Hill Records founder Will Ackerman, a number of A-list studio musicians accompany Jennifer on her profound musical journey, making this an evocative and deeply moving listening experience.

Right from the opening track, "Sunrise to Sunset," her heart energy and passion was evident. The descending chord progression of the intro drew me in and made me want to hear more. The next track entitled "Calling Angels," was one of the first songs Jennifer wrote after recovering from a serious medical condition. I don't know what kind of emotional mojo she has imbued it with, but it gave me chills when I heard it. Helping give the song it's wings is an all-star cast of frequent Will Ackerman collaborators. While various combinations of these incredible studio musicians grace just about all of the songs on the album, for the title track, Jennifer has chosen to fly solo. And her rich melodies and impeccable sense of dynamics can certainly stand on their own. An interesting change of pace is a Latin-flavored tune called "Mexican Daydream." In contrast to the more reflective nature of most of the songs on the album, this one had a jazzy foot-tapping appeal that made it one of my favorites.

For me, the thing that stands out most about the music of Jennifer DeFrayne is the emotional presence that permeates her compositions and the ability to communicate that through her playing. Guided by the expertise of Will Ackerman and Fiona Joy, Jennifer has created an auspicious debut recording that marks the emergence of a talented artist with a promising musical future.

Amidst the losses and suppressions from without
Enjoy your life and celebrate new day

When this music starts playing, it's just as if a gray, life experienced writer sits down on a chair in front of the public and slowly begins his fascinating story. He has so much to tell for sophisticated audience ...

The music of the album “By a Wire” has such a power and beauty that it stirs the soul from the very first seconds and you are not able to tear yourself away from these divine tunes until the last chords.

Jennifer DeFrayne experienced a lot of in her life. Perhaps, that is why her music is filled with such a depth and expressiveness. Jennifer found the strength to overcome all the difficulties and sufferings. This is reflected in the compositions of “By a Wire”. Its music has freshness and it is full of inspiration.

“By a Wire” is the debut album of Jennifer DeFrayne at Imaginary Road Studious. She recorded this release with co-producers pianist/composer Fiona Joy and legendary Will Ackerman. Many brilliant performers such as Charlie Bisharat, Eugene Friesen, Fiona Joy, Jeff Haynes, Jeff Oster, Jill Haley, Noah Wilding, Rebecca Daniel, Tony Levin, Tom Eaton and Will Ackerman took part in work on this project. They bring many new bright colors in the heartfelt piano melodies of Jennifer.

The music of “By a Wire” has a distinct therapeutic effect. It gives consolation and brings a hope for the better. And maybe the main feature of Jennifer’s music that it is very natural. The artist’s heart is open and full of compassion.

Listen to the album “By a Wire”. It, without doubt, can be named as real music for real world. When the sounds of “By a Wire” die down, its beauty will remain with you…

Every reviewer relishes the opportunity to hear a new impressive artist and Jennifer De Frayne is one of them. Her music will tenderly persuade you to sit up and listen and when you do your ears will be massaged into gentle submissive surrender. Her impressive debut from performance to material to production knocks it out of the musical ballpark. Enlisting the production of Will Ackerman, his A team session players and the co-production and recording label of her peer Fiona Joy results in By A Wire exuding the elements of a long term major player versus a tentative introduction.

Musically, By A Wire is anchored around the two songs “Calling Angels” and “Hope Floats” which were DeFrayne’s first recordings after suffering from a stroke back in 2009. A mother of two along with the efforts to physically rehabilitate makes this musical experience even sweeter as DeFrayne faced significant adversity and challenges yet still delivers the goods with this stellar solo debut. But that aside the music stands on its own with elements of George Winston and Liz Story intermingled within her own DNA musical style.

By A Wire may be missed by some as the album is not a walloping forceful impression but one that will plea you into a slow sweet surrender. With absolutely no filler and only one solo track, Jennifer DeFrayne has left the musical community with no doubt that her debut has sleeper hit of 2014 written all over it.
