Amazing, Nightwish is a vicious, a good vicious !, August 28, 2011
This review is from: Bye Bye Beautiful (Audio CD)
I bought the Dark Passion Play album between any others Nightwish's CDs but I never had bought their singles. It was an awesome experience ; Escapist is simply fantastic, each minute is beautiful. Bye Bye Beautiful remix is good, strange, but good. I never had seen a symphonic metal band to do a remix . Eletronic music and rock together in a same disc ? It was impossible, but Nightwish did . RECOMMENDED !

This review is from: Bye Bye Beautiful (Audio CD)
"Bye Bye Beautiful" is the second single from Nightwish's Dark Passion Play album, and is best known among fans as a song about the band's former singer Tarja Turunen and how her attitude toward the band and music changed, becoming, they claim, more materialistic. The song is a highly emotional piece of fast-paced metal oozing with angst and retribution. Really, I think Tuomas was just blowing off some steam here, but I was surprised to see him do so in such a public way. But I have to admit, he channeled his own personal/band drama into a dramatic piece of art that many listeners can relate to. People change, the world moves forward. Sometimes it's hard to hang on to the past and you have to move forward and accept change...
The majority of the song actually features vocal work by bassist Marco Hietala, with new singer Anette Olzon taking more of a secondary role. My guess is that since Anette was not directly involved with the entire Tarja drama, Tuomas is trying to distance her from that. According to wikipedia, the band stopped performing the song live in 2009 and formally announced that it will no longer be performed at concerts -it must have just been time to move on. This single also includes a remix of "Bye Bye Beautiful" which is mildly interesting, but I'm not excited about it and would stick with the original version.
There's also the fabulous song "The Escapist," a DPP B-side and the demo version of 14-minute epic symphony "Poet and the Pendulum." "The Escapist" is actually one of my favorite songs with Anette. She really rocks this song and makes it her own -it's great to sing to and completely unforgettable, not to mention the string sections around the chorus (especially the final choruses at the end) are phenomenal. The "Poet.." demo is interesting, as it gives the opportunity for a glance into the creative process behind the final song, with only Marco's vocals and not quite all of the symphonic sections.
A wonderful sample of the amazing music genius on Dark Passion Play, "Bye Bye Beautiful" is another excellent song from Nightwish.

Nightwish Bye Bye Beautiful, January 9, 2009
This is one of the coolest things i have ever seen come out of the music industry. I bought this thinking that it was just a record that my dad could keep wrapped up for a collector's item. when he got it and opened it, it was a lot cooler than i thought. it wasn't just a record it was a record that had the cover printed on the vinyl and it was pretty sharp. definetly an awesome item for the price.
