5.0 out of 5 stars Very cute book, February 5, 2008

This review is from: Bye-Bye Binky (Hardcover)
I purchased this book to read to my 3 year old daughter before we took the pacifier away (or as we told her the boom boom fairy). We read it the night the fairy came. My daughter loved the book. It is so funny (she even laughed out loud a bunch of times). This book makes the pacifier seem like it's not a very big deal as the other animals find different and silly uses for it. However, I like how it didn't skip over the fact that Nori did miss it, because I believe it is important to acknowledge a child's feeling. But at the end, it makes the point that Nori is big and he doesn't need it anymore as his friends watch with support. Since taking away my daughter pacifier she has wanted to read this story every night. And I believe in enforces the fact that yes she misses her pacifier, but she is a big girl now.

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked!, March 22, 2010

I was skeptical that this would work, but after the second night of reading it, when asked if she was ready to say "bye bye" to her binky, my daughter gave me her binky and said "bye bye"! She has asked for it a couple of times, and we just explain that she said "bye bye" just like Nori did in the book. So this really helped us take that first big step of moving in the right direction!

5.0 out of 5 stars great book!, April 12, 2009

As my son was ready to turn 3, we started preparing him by talking a lot about giving up his cherished "nuky". We read this book and just talked about how when he turns 3 he'll be too much of a big boy for a nuk anymore. On the night of his bday, he gave it up with hardly any fuss and has only mentioned it a few times since. It was a much easier transitition that we had expected. I give this book part of the credit. It's very clear and cute. I'm so glad that out of all the ones I looked at, this was the one I went ahead and actually ordered.

4.0 out of 5 stars Adorable but abstract to a toddler, February 5, 2009

Beautiful art & interesting story, but if you are looking for a book to help your toddler give up her pacifier, as I was, this is a little too abstract.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!, February 2, 2009

This review is from: Bye-Bye Binky (Hardcover)
This book really helped us to lay the groundwork to finally take away our three year old daughter's pacifier. At first she just loved that there were binkies in the book. Soon she began to get involved with the story and tell us that the binky was yucky after having been on the ground, etc. Soon I had my daughter tell me the story and she would enthusiastically yell "bye bye binky" at the end. We tried to send the binky away on a balloon but it was too heavy. In the end we got our daughter to throw her own binky away and we used this story to remind her that she was a big girl and didn't need it anymore. My daughter was a serious binky addict and this book really helped us!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for us!!, November 11, 2008

It took a couple weeks of reading, then my 2 yr old daughter made the decision ON HER OWN to let her binky go away on a balloon!! We tried not to pressure her, because we did not want her to regret it later. I have been recommending this book to many people having the paci issue. We are so glad we got the book and didn't realize what an issue it was to get rid of paci. Thanks to the writers for making it easier to get rid of the binky!

5.0 out of 5 stars We said bye bye binky!!!, September 5, 2008
This review is from: Bye-Bye Binky (Hardcover)
So we started telling our baby she was a "big girl" and it was going to be time for her to say "bye bye binky", meanwhile we read this book to her. In the book Nori lets her Binky fly away on a balloon when she realizes she doesn't need it anymore. My 19 month old LOVED the book. A couple days later we went and bought balloons, (BTW 2-3 ballons per binky to get them to float), and told her it was time to say bye bye to her binkies because she was "so big". She let them go herself, (we sent them to "Jesus"), and thought it was great fun. Nap time and bedtime have been harder but we give her a little extra love, and it's not so bad. She has not ever asked for a binky since that day. In fact she's REALLY proud of herself and whenever someone says she's a "big girl" she starts babbling "bye bye binky sky Jesus binky bye bye big girl". She thinks she became a big girl by letting those binkies go, and she loves to talk about it. This book was a big help... and is so very cute... we will keep it forever! Most definately a memory book.

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter. We're trying to get rid of her "Poppy". Hasn't worked yet but this is one of her favorite books. Adorable story and nice illustrations.

4.0 out of 5 stars good book...but will it do the trick?, May 14, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bye-Bye Binky (Hardcover)
I bought this and the Binky Ba-Ba Fairy book at the same time and my daughter prefers this one hands down. It is a great way to keep plugging the message of "get rid of that darned thing!" However, I'm not sure if she associates herself yet with giving up the binky, since the characters seem to 'lose it' instead of giving it up. Only at the end is there a choice to give it up voluntarily, so I think she might be missing the point.

Of course it is still a good book.
