5.0 out of 5 stars Comfy, colorful hammock
My family and I have owned this hammock for a couple of years and think it's fabulous. The cheerful colors brighten up any backyard or cabin setting and remind me of lazy days spent in the carribean. Without the spreader bar the hammock is less tipsy which is a definite plus in my book. I also really like the fact it's made out of 100% cotton.

3.0 out of 5 stars good, but not great
while this hammock is more than adequate, i feel it didn't quite live up to the other glowing reviews it received. the hammock's manufacturer encourages you to go "brazilian style", meaning to lie diagonally across the fabric, instead of lying lengthwise and being swallowed by the cocoon of fabric. But instead of feeling incredibly relaxed, ala being on a beach in...

5.0 out of 5 stars What a hammock should be, September 26, 2007

I'm not an expert on hammocks but I am very pleased with this product. Once you get the hang of it, it's extremely easy to use and supremely comfortable. It's a great place to spend a few hours with a book and a beer on a hot summer afternoon. And the bright colors look great. I'm 5' 11" and weigh about 195 pounds and this hammock can hold me without any problem. Note that you will need to purchase tree straps and karabiners or some other device to fasten this to your favorite uprights. All in all, a very satisfying purchase.

But instead of feeling incredibly relaxed, ala being on a beach in Brazil, I end up with a slight neck cramp from trying to keep my body from slipping down to a "normal" hammock position.

Cute and colorful, it's definitely a fine hammock, but I feel there are probably better ones out there.

I also think that hammocks, like shoes, are things that you can't purchase online. You must sit, lie and test to make sure it's the right "fit" for you.

We wanted a hammock that was not the open ropes kind, had no stretcher bars to make it tipsy, was long enough to lounge comfortably in and that wasn't too pricey. This one is perfect. The fabric is a soft comfortable but sturdy cotton and the colors are just as pictured, vibrant stripes (we got the blue). Originally thought we'd hang this between a couple of trees in the yard... but once it arrived, we decided we wanted the flexibility to move it around so wound up buying the Texsport Padre Island hammock stand to go with it. When we first put it on the stand, it stretched nearly straight across - but my daughter tried it anyway, and once you use it, it drapes more naturally and is actually a perfect fit.

I am totally satisfied with the purchase, comfort, breathability, style, and quality of this stable cotton hammock. It can be used to elevate the legs almost like traction therapy for people with back injuries! Truly relaxing!

This hammock is not only easy on the eyes its easy on a weary mind. I laid in this hammock for a few hours and tried to convince myself to get out. I didn't want to move. This hammock cradles your body just right, no neck pain and no strange and uncomfortable positioning. The fabric is comfortable and very durable. I would consider ditching my bed and sleeping in the hammock instead. I can tell that this hammock was highly crafted, very well made. I am completely satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone. Here's some advice though, make certain that all the things you could possibly need are within reach because you are not going to want to leave that hammock.

This hammock is the best I've ever used. It is made of soft cotton so it does not irritate the skin or trap sweat like synthetics do. I spent some time researching hammocks and I found all of byers of maine's hammock descriptions to be lacking in technical details, even at their own website which is reminicent of the mid '90s in design. Its too bad since they seem to be making one of the best sleeping hammocks around. This hammock should be hung, according to the information sheet included with the item, at 11.5 to 12 feet end to end. I hung it at 12 feet and it needed to be stretched a bit in order to reach. after sleeping in it for a couple nights, the hammock has stretched to a just about perfect U shape. One word of warning: The cotton cordage used on either end of the hammock is susceptible to chafing. You must use an ess hook, weight rated carabiner or other non chafing hardware when attaching the hammocks eyes to the tree/wall/stand. Because of this, it's probably not the most durable for outdoor usage. I wouldn't expect it to last more than a couple seasons in the elements and I doubt it would last through a northern winter.

This hammock is amazingly comfortable to sleep in and I suggest anyone with back problems to give it a try. Unlike a new mattress, it didn't take a few nights to get used to. I slept like a baby the first night.

Highly recommended especially as an alternative to the traditional boxspring and mattress.

Disclaimer: Although I do live in Maine, I had never heard of this company before looking for a hammock. I don't work for these people or have any association with their employees or the owners.

These hammocks are absolutely perfect. I have used this hammock in my backyard and on camping trips for about 2 years now, and i love it. I've probably spent hundreds of hours napping in this hammock with my girlfriend very comfortably. She weights 121 lbs and i weigh 169, and it hold us perfectly. However, if you dont feel like cuddling up with the person you're sharing this with, i recommend a bigger one. Perfect for one and perfect for two if they really like eachother.

The brazilian, full cotton, unbarred style is the only hammock ill ever buy. Mesh ropes and spacer barred hammocks are just uncomforable, and hard to take a nap because you'll fall out. While staying at disney world, the resort had barred rope hammocks on the waterfront and they sucked. luckily i brought this baby with me and i set it up on a pair of palms and i felt right at home.

I sleep in this thing on any cool night i can instead of my bed. I cant even express how much i love this hammock. My brother moved out and took it with him, so i just ordered another. i've shopped around, and nothing compares to this. Byers of Maine website has the full line of Amazonas hammocks so you can check it out to see how big of a size you want.

just make sure to lay in it DIAGONALLY and hang the ends high enough and far enough. for home i bought super heavy duty dock carbiners and super heavy duty eye bolts at lowes for a total of $10. for camping, id recommend using the carbiners from lowes and 3/8" poly or nylon rope(100' sections for $10 at lowes, or purchase by the foot at 40-60cents per foot). dont cheap out this hardware or you'll come crashing to the ground like i did once with cheaper, wimpy eye bolts while swinging with my girlfriend and i in the hammock.

1.0 out of 5 stars looked good, felt good but only for a few weeks., August 4, 2009
The hammock is comfortable. The stings that tie it to its sides came apart after about a month rendering it unsafe and unusuable.

It's a hammock, plain and simple and a really good one at that. Very comfortable, sturdy and stable, and no waffle print on your face when you fall asleep in it!
