I own two other hammocks, but got this one (actually got two) so that EVERY member of my family could sleep in a hammock. A couple of features that make this one inferior to the other hammocks I own. First, the ropes are too short. I've had to augment with extra rope (I'd recommend 100" on each side). Second, the parachute portion is just adequate for me and I'm only 5'8". Finally, the canopy system on this one is a bigger hassle than my other hammocks, which require no threading through loops.
I do find this hammock to flatten out better when you lay diagonally as recommended. My other hammocks, which feature a larger parachute, don't flatten as easily. For the price, this is a great hammock.

I just got back from a one day trip where i was testing some new gear. i'll be spending a week in Big Cypress preserve so i wanted to make sure everything worked fine. that being said, let me go into the details of the hammock.1. set up is fairly easy although D-rings or carabiners and some cordage is necessary (the hammock does NOT come with any gear for set up) 2. it does not come with a rain fly. i knew this when i purchased it and its not a big deal if you buy an 8x10 tarp for $10 and set it up as a rain-fly. 3. the hammock itself was comfortable although the mosquito netting is quite loose and sometimes gets in your face. in my case it stuck to my head like Velcro (i shave my head bald). 4. and finally, the reason im giving the hammock 1 star! when i awoke after sleeping for the first night in the hammock, i noticed i had bites all over the backs of my legs. at home, my girlfriend noticed i had them on the backs of my arms. this morning when i shaved my head, i had bites on the back of my head. i didn't know what to think of it at first, i thought i had run into poison ivy and then it dawned on me. every piece of skin that was pressed against the hammock itself had bites on it! i know there were no mosquitoes inside with me and the mosquito netting worked as it should, however, the material the hammock itself is made of is thin enough for mosquitoes to bite through. i literally have over a hundred mosquito bites along the backs of my legs, arms and head! Like the title says: If you are going into the heart of mosquito country, DO NOT BUY THIS HAMMOCK!

Can't give 4.5 stars, but this is great,

I was having trouble sleeping during a camping trip at a state park. I came across this model hammock along with several others at an outdoor store, and decided on this one to try hammock camping. Boy am I glad I did!
Unfortunately it doesn't come with its own tarp. That is the only reason I would give it a 4.5 rather than 5 star rating. But I had a blue utility tarp in my car camping supplies. It took a bit to figure out the best way to hang this where I was. Being an established campgrounds, suitable trees were not readily at the site I was using. Luckily I seem to be a bit resistant to poison ivy. I used straps around the trees and short pieces of 550 paracord as drip lines at the ends of the ropes to keep any rain from coming down them inside with me. Later when I took it down, I used the drip lines to wrap the hanging ropes and prevent them getting tangled in the stuff sack that comes with it. The first night I did not use a pad under me. Even though it only got down to about 65 degrees Fahrenheit, I felt like my entire backside was freezing. I didn't hang it high and tight enough at first, and ended up with my shoulders on the ground. (Also probably because the straps I used were nylon and not poly.) I rehung it and that was solved. Inadvertently I got in facing towards the East and where cars would come down the drive between campsites of the loop I was on. That meant every passing car shined in my eyes, and the rising sun did too. The next night I put my foam pad inside, faced the other direction, and I slept great! My point is, and I do have one, it may take a bit to learn to hang a hammock like this to sleep the night. But it is worth it. This is an inexpensive, lightweight, well made hammock to try hammock camping. After using it a while, you will either absolutely love this one, or know what you need to make yourself more comfortable. And if you do have nylon instead of poly hanging straps, well just stretch them by spending time in the hammock and rehanging it. I know it is a tough job to do. But, if you don't do it who will? (Hon, I'll change the oil later. I'm busy stretching the straps for the camping trip... Oh yeah that would go over great..) This hammock, a tarp, and the rigging weigh in at less than my 2 man tent with fly, groundcloth, etc.

I spent a week at havasupai falls in the bottom of the Grand Canyon with this hammock. It made my trip! I loved the versatile usage with or with out the bug net. Others in my group had hammocks from other companies and woke up to mice in bed with them because their bug nets did not seal like this one. Both my boy friend and I bought this product and we slept better than at home. I'm a small female at 5 feet tall and 115 lbs, while he is over six feet and almost at the weight max for this hammock at 240 lbs and both of us had wonderful sleep. Highly recommended.

I bought this byer of maine- or amazonas (they are identical) hammock and I love it. I have been hamock camping for a few years now and this hammock has been slept in dozens of times. It is very lightweight and VERY durable.
My biggest fear was that it would be poorly made and rip- or fall apart- it does not! I have slept in this hammock- bug free - dozens of times- in all seasons. If you are thinking of getting into hammock camping this is the best way to go- you have a reversible hammock so the bug net is an option- and it is great! I have bought other amazonas-or byer- hammocks for friends since then and they all are holding up great!

I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable this hammock was. I slept in it and would have easily slept all night had it not started raining and chased me back in the house. Great deal in a lightweight hammock.

Great for outdoors,
This review is from: Byer of Maine Model A103016 Moskito Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
I camp with this hammock ALOT. the netting is great but if you have never slept in a hammock before it takes a couple nights getting used too. I have slept in real Brazilian hand made hammocks and slept in the jungle with mosquito nets. I love the softness of the woven ones but they are large and inconvenient when traveling. This hammock seals the netting which is great for not having any critters or bugs sneaking under. I don't like the cord that holds up the netting, I am replacing it with 550 paracord. I use ENO slap straps and black diamond light weight Caribeaners. It works great for me. I say get it. The fact that i could use it with or without the netting is what had me sold, and the Brazilian style which I love.

Not a serious snow-crested mountain ascending type of hammock; no frills or accessories. It is a summer-time leisure trip hammock. But it is perfectly suited for weekend camp-outs, scouting, and one-time adventure trip. Costs $110 less than my Hennessy, but does 80% of what my Hennessy does.
The Moskito is a bit small as other reviewers have stated. I am just at 6 feet tall, and I can lay diagonally in comfort, however, the small size would eventually affect my comfort on a long, or nasty weather trip. You will need to add your own tree ropes and rain fly, as it does not come with any. I used the rain fly from an old tent, and purchased some climbing carabiners,Black Diamond Neutrino Carabiner and climbing rope. You want high strength for hanging a hammock, because knots reduce rope strength by 50%. Using carabiners to attach the tree ropes to the hammock tie-loops prevents rain water from coming down the ropes and soaking the hammock. Carabiners are not essential, but makes things easier. This hammock is designed to hang either way; upside down, with the bug netting underneath so you are uncovered, or with the bug netting over you. Unfortunately, the extra slack in the bug netting piles up on your face - really annoying. I will have to sew on a tab to tie the bug net back. The net does seal up really well, and it is a very fine mesh. Material quality, and build quality are very good. Far better than I expected. If you are looking for a weekend hammock, or just want to try out hammock camping, buy this one to start out. It is built well enough for you to get a taste of the more expensive hammocks without breaking your wallet.

I have to say, they did a great job on this. I have a friend, and he let me use his Hennessy Hammock, and they cost between 150 to 350. I really didn't want to spend THAT much money on a hammock, so I got this one. It is just as good! Plus, do NOT buy a rainfly for this, you can EASILY make one. All you do is run some rope from one tree to the other about two feet above the hammock. Put a 10x8 tarp and lay it length wise on the rope. after this, get four pieces of rope and four stakes, then tie the pieces of rope to the corners. After this, you tie the rope to the stakes and stake it down. The finall part is to go out in the woods and find two sticks, put them in the middle so the tarp is a good distance from your hammock. You may have to whittle the ends and stick it in the holes on the tarp on each side. Hope this helped!

Nice lightweight hammock, only problem is it doesn't come with any anchors or straps so you must buy them separately or make your own.
