I own two other hammocks, but got this one (actually got two) so that EVERY member of my family could sleep in a hammock. A couple of features that make this one inferior to the other hammocks I own. First, the ropes are too short. I've had to augment with extra rope (I'd recommend 100" on each side). Second, the parachute portion is just adequate for me and I'm only 5'8". Finally, the canopy system on this one is a bigger hassle than my other hammocks, which require no threading through loops.
I do find this hammock to flatten out better when you lay diagonally as recommended. My other hammocks, which feature a larger parachute, don't flatten as easily. For the price, this is a great hammock.

I just got back from a one day trip where i was testing some new gear. i'll be spending a week in Big Cypress preserve so i wanted to make sure everything worked fine. that being said, let me go into the details of the hammock.1. set up is fairly easy although D-rings or carabiners and some cordage is necessary (the hammock does NOT come with any gear for set up) 2. it does not come with a rain fly. i knew this when i purchased it and its not a big deal if you buy an 8x10 tarp for $10 and set it up as a rain-fly. 3. the hammock itself was comfortable although the mosquito netting is quite loose and sometimes gets in your face. in my case it stuck to my head like Velcro (i shave my head bald). 4. and finally, the reason im giving the hammock 1 star! when i awoke after sleeping for the first night in the hammock, i noticed i had bites all over the backs of my legs. at home, my girlfriend noticed i had them on the backs of my arms. this morning when i shaved my head, i had bites on the back of my head. i didn't know what to think of it at first, i thought i had run into poison ivy and then it dawned on me. every piece of skin that was pressed against the hammock itself had bites on it! i know there were no mosquitoes inside with me and the mosquito netting worked as it should, however, the material the hammock itself is made of is thin enough for mosquitoes to bite through. i literally have over a hundred mosquito bites along the backs of my legs, arms and head! Like the title says: If you are going into the heart of mosquito country, DO NOT BUY THIS HAMMOCK!

Can't give 4.5 stars, but this is great,

I was having trouble sleeping during a camping trip at a state park. I came across this model hammock along with several others at an outdoor store, and decided on this one to try hammock camping. Boy am I glad I did!
Unfortunately it doesn't come with its own tarp. That is the only reason I would give it a 4.5 rather than 5 star rating. But I had a blue utility tarp in my car camping supplies. It took a bit to figure out the best way to hang this where I was. Being an established campgrounds, suitable trees were not readily at the site I was using. Luckily I seem to be a bit resistant to poison ivy. I used straps around the trees and short pieces of 550 paracord as drip lines at the ends of the ropes to keep any rain from coming down them inside with me. Later when I took it down, I used the drip lines to wrap the hanging ropes and prevent them getting tangled in the stuff sack that comes with it. The first night I did not use a pad under me. Even though it only got down to about 65 degrees Fahrenheit, I felt like my entire backside was freezing. I didn't hang it high and tight enough at first, and ended up with my shoulders on the ground. (Also probably because the straps I used were nylon and not poly.) I rehung it and that was solved. Inadvertently I got in facing towards the East and where cars would come down the drive between campsites of the loop I was on. That meant every passing car shined in my eyes, and the rising sun did too. The next night I put my foam pad inside, faced the other direction, and I slept great! My point is, and I do have one, it may take a bit to learn to hang a hammock like this to sleep the night. But it is worth it. This is an inexpensive, lightweight, well made hammock to try hammock camping. After using it a while, you will either absolutely love this one, or know what you need to make yourself more comfortable. And if you do have nylon instead of poly hanging straps, well just stretch them by spending time in the hammock and rehanging it. I know it is a tough job to do. But, if you don't do it who will? (Hon, I'll change the oil later. I'm busy stretching the straps for the camping trip... Oh yeah that would go over great..) This hammock, a tarp, and the rigging weigh in at less than my 2 man tent with fly, groundcloth, etc. 2115|R1E0F8KLYQULT1;2115|RR7OZFX0BSL5T;2115|R36OQSFSD8ENIZ;
