5.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff!
A weekly dose of inspiration is just what every working writer needs this holiday season. And the Bylines Calendar 2005 delivers just that. Photos and words of inspiration from all sorts of writers convey the message, "I can do it. So can you."

The calendar features a daily dose of trivia, and provides additional pages to assist in long term planning.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Lovers of the Written Word, December 20, 2004
This review is from: Bylines 2005 Writer's Desk Calendar (Spiral-bound)
Bylines Writer's Desk Calendar is a terrific daytimer. The personal reflections from the great variety of writers are insightful, funny and passionate. I liked the format (the spiral binding) and size, the layout is easy to use, and each week I get acquainted with a new person. But Bylines is not just for writers. I'm an incurable READER, and loved the opportunity to get inside the heads of the people who entertain me. I'm giving it as gifts to all of the members of my Book Club.

BYLINES: 2005 WRITER'S DESK CALENDAR has me in a quandary trying to figure out
what to do with my palm pilot for the next year. Chock full of wisdom that
can only come from folks who find themselves eavesdropping on conversations
and creating characters as a result, BYLINES endears it as a necessary
resource for all writers.

Constructed with useful spiral binding, BYLINES is a week-at-a-glance type
calendar that provides a weekly reminder of a writer's life. Each week
features a different writer and his/her story, philosophy, or thoughts on
leading a scribe's life. As you flip the pages of the calendar, you begin to
recognize the writer in you and develop camaraderie for the folks who fill the
pages of this date book. An added bonus is that the calendar features a
daily listing of widely known writer's birthdays.

BYLINES provides inspiration for writers in all stages-- from aspiring to
multi-published. As I read each account, I experienced a renewed sense of
purpose in my writing as well as a sense of fellowship from a number of kindred
spirits. This calendar is a must-have for anyone who has ever written
something and worried about his/her talent. It encourages, validates, and
provides space for you to keep track of important appointments.

3.0 out of 5 stars little book of writing widsom with a bonus calendar/diary, December 25, 2004
This review is from: Bylines 2005 Writer's Desk Calendar (Spiral-bound)
Ever wonder how other writers came to their craft? Or how they deal with rejection? Or maybe their personal writing rituals? "Bylines" lets you see the perspectives of 53 other writers. While providing you with a way to learn about writers and the writing life, it is also a month at a glance and weekly calendar.

"May your words be profound more often than profane, clever more often than clichéd, in print more often than in your computer." Those are the words and wishes from publisher, Linda Hagen Miller, for established and aspiring writers. An excellent way to start off this little book of wisdom.

The first section is the monthly calendar. One month to a page with a generous notes section underneath. Following this is the weekly calendar with a byline opposite each page. Each byline is divided in two. The first part is a writing sample about their writing life; the second is a short bio and some kind of contact info, be it email or website URL. An accompanying black and white photo of the writer helps fit a face to the words. Every manner of writer is involved in this calendar. Poet, novelist, short story, freelancer. Every week provides a new outlook into the world of writing and a little bit of inspiration to start off your week.

Writers can draw inspiration from the likes of Andrew Bill, "That pen in your hand is a magic wand and we writers are magicians with spells to tell." The wealth of information doesn't end with the few lines here but continues with links to the writers' website and further resources. There seems to be many writers from Washington. I'd would have liked to see a wider range of locals.

In the weekly calendar, birthdays and anniversaries of writers are in the margins: January 25, Virginia Woolf 1882-1941 and April 14, Maya Angelou 1928- just to name a few. Opposite this are the American Holidays. These are small so as not to impede with the writing space.

"Bylines" is an excellent calendar for marking daily writing tasks or as a mini daily journal of your writing life. The pages are made from heavy card stock for durability and has a spiral
binding so it can easily lie flat or be folded back. This handy planner is reasonably priced and recommended over the drab office planner for writers and for readers.
