Does the thought of fast food on the run during your travels make you shiver? Stop ordering boxed, run-of-the-mill sustenance and find some real food! The cafes and restaurants in this guide are featured because of their comfortable atmosphere and wholesome foods. This book is a tribute to “small-town” service and individuality. Byway Eateries of Minnesota is a guide to those valuable neighborhood cafes all across the state, the gems where you get local flavor in meals and company. The food is great, often at a bargain price, and you get a chance to sample the time-honored specialties of each cafè. Byway eateries includes locations, maps, hours and phone numbers of more than 130 cafes and restaurants. Tips for what to try and specialties to taste are also contained in this handy guide that is the perfect size to fit in your glove compartment. Byway Eateries is divided by region in Minnesota, and all restaurants are chosen based on their food, cleanliness and atmosphere.

Take the Byway Eateries Quiz! Where can you find a sandwich called the Dag Wamp? Which restaurant is constructed of 300- year-old timbers taken from a railroad trestle? Where can you get a rhubarb malt served in a refurbished 1930s sawmill? Where can you find a wide variety of ethnic foods including moussaka, Indian curries and Shepherd’s Pie? Who serves the largest pancakes in the state of Minnesota?

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" guide to good food on the road, August 18, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Byway Eateries of Minnesota (Paperback)
A handy and fun guide to "off the beaten path" spots for good food and some local color. Properly sized to keep in your car and complete with excellent directions to find the best small town resturants in the state, you will definately find this a favorite for that Saturday drive in Minnesota.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good resource, but heavily outdated, September 21, 2006
By
Ryner (Chaska, Minnesota, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Byway Eateries of Minnesota (Paperback)
This book is a nice resource for the Minnesota road-tripper as it highlights eateries that might otherwise be missed by a traveler unfamiliar with an area. The author's apparent obsession with mashed potatoes became a little old after a while, and it should be noted is that this book was published in 2000, and so many of the establishments listed have closed, moved or changed their names. However, often a new restaurant worth trying will open in the same location.
