Product Description

The Red Tip TechnologyTM is exclusive to the North American Brand. The C-A-T® is a true one-handed tourniquet proven to be 100% effective by the U.S. Armys Institute of Surgical Research. Tests proved that the C-A-T® completely occluded blood flow of an extremity in the event of a traumatic wound with significant hemorrhage. The C-A-T® utilizes a durable windlass system with a free-moving internal band providing true circumferential pressure to the extremity. Once adequately tightened, bleeding will cease and the windlass is locked into place. A Velcro® strap is then applied, securing the windlass to maintain pressure during casualty evacuation. The C-A-T®s unique dual securing system avoids the use of screws and clips which can become difficult to operate under survival stress or where fine motor skills are compromised. New Features include a Windlass Rod 2X as strong with increased diameter and improved grip, Re-enforced Windlass Clip & highly visible Security Tab with writable area to record the time of application, and Red elliptical tip to assist user in locating and threading during application.

The one I received was a cheep chines counterfeit. You do not want to go cheep on a piece of equipment that your life or the lives of your loved ones may have to count on. Just buy the product direct from American Rescues and avoid the risk of getting a counterfeit item that will fail to work at a critical time.
If you go direct to North American Rescues website you can read that there has been a counterfeiting problem of this product. What angers me is that someone would be so greedy and immoral as to counterfeit life saving equipment, a T-shirt or a handbag who care but something that will kill someone if it fails, which this one will, do to its cheep flimsy construction, how can you justify counterfeiting an item like this. You can also go to the FDA's website to see counterfeit warnings, google it.

I have doubts this is the same North American Rescue brand I was issued in the Army. There was no tag to write the time/date on, and the instructions were the work of a kindergarten class. It holds up to pressure good though, so even if it turns out to be an imposter brand, I would still but again for the price.

I have been issued legitimate NAR CAT tourniquets in the past, and this (I'm fairly certain) is not one. This is misleadingly advertised to make you think this is made by NAR, but in fact appears to be manufactured by "Phil Durango," whoever that is...Buy a real one somewhere else. Don't stake your life on this thing.

My wife and I completed a trauma class and ordered a tourniquet. This came and was about 1/2 the cost of the dealer cost we could have used form the class. These were the same tourniquets the class offered. I've since ordered 2 more.

There's not too much to say about a tourniquet. I've practiced with these, and found that they work fine, and one handed application is fairly easy. My only complaint is the method used to secure the windlass after tightening. I think the method found on the SOF-T is a better design, though less simple. In the end, these tourniquets have been field proven to do the job and having either this or the SOF-T is better than the tourniquet you don't have.

This is the third CAT I've purchased. This model has improvements from the first ones I bought and used. Well worth the money!

Had this recommended to me by a combat medic who has unfortunately had to use these many times. He convinced me that I had to have one of these(or 2) in my range bag. The C-A-T is the gold standard of tourniquets. The only problem with the C-A-T is that it is often ripped off and cheaply duplicated. I had the person who recommended this to me look mine over once it showed up from this seller-he was certain that it was real. I tried it on myself a couple of times just to make sure I understood it, and the windlass (plastic rod that you twist to apply pressure) really feels as if its going to break when you get it as tight as it needs to go. The person who recommended it to me explained that this was normal and that he has never actually had one break, because the plastic is flexible enough for it to not happen. I would fully recommend that everybody have one of these in the glove compartment of their vehicle and/or in their range bag.

Everyone needs one of these in a BOB, Triage kit, First aid kit and even a firing range Emergency kit. I have a few of these. I even carry one of these in my school backpack. Nothing like working in a woodshop class and someone with a circular saw taking off their arm, or in a automotive class and a cable snapping and taking off a limb. So this is a must. I do on a side note, I do keep a few of the hospital grade tourniquets that phlebotomist use to draw blood.
**** NOTE**** Remember to have a RED or BLACK sharpie to note the time you apply the Tourniquet. If you do not know why I just added this note, please do not use one of these, and close the page.
