Could be brighter,

For a spot light, this could be brighter. For my needs it works fine. would I get another one? Only if it's for close quarters. I do not recommend this if you need to spot a large area. For brightness, I've give it a medium in brightness. about equal to a 40 watt bulb in lumens in my opinion.

Not the Brightest Bulb,

LED's have really come along way but this bulb is not really bright enough to be used in a Par 30 ceiling fixture to provide task lighting. It would be good in a room that you might typically use a dimmer to reduce your current lighting. Of course the power savings is tremendous; even compared to compact fluorescent bulbs.

I've had two of these running all night every day for the last 5 months on our front porch, and I've been happy with them. They aren't that bright, but they barely use any power at all. For this application, they are just bright enough. I live in a cold climate (Seattle), and I'm guessing that others in warmer climates might have failure problems if the lights are used above normal room temperature. LEDs last longer when they can be kept cool while running.
There are now other LED lights out there that fit in a par 30 socket and put out several times more light, but they also cost several times as much as this one. I do plan on upgrading to brighter versions when they become more economical. One thing that all LED lights suffer from is that their light is a little too directional and don't disperse as much as CFLs and incandescents do.

Great Idea Bad product,

I bought one from the manufacturer directly, and sent it back. It's just not bright. I'd compare it to a 20-40 watt incandescent. If that's what you need, then it's great, but most folks, myself included, need more light from a bulb that size.

All LED lights should disclose color temperature,

I was very disappointed to find that the color temperature on this product is quite high, despite the fact that no where on it's profile is the color temperature listed. All LED manufacturers should be required to supply the color temperature info along with any order of their lights. The light works great, it's just not what I wanted. For anybody's reference I would put the color temperature at around 3500-4000k, it is not something you want to use indoors (or really outdoors for that matter, it's a really white temperature).

I have up-graded all my track lights to the C Crane LED PAR 20 and PAR 30 and I think that they are a good buy for the money compared to other LED's.
They are not as bright as the new very pricey LED's but I compensate for this by using the lights in pairs where I need enough light to read comfortably, and by having light-colored walls that reflect the light. Also, the PAR 20 comes in a spot as well as a flood. It is true that, when the C Crane LED's first came out, the bulbs didn't always last very long. However, that tech problem appears to be solved. All the bulbs I bought since mid-2008 are still in use. I do see a noticeable difference in my electric bill from the low wattage, which means good for the environment as well as the wallet. Lastly, The C Crane lights produce a white-white light which I personally prefer to the color-distorting yellow of many other lights. BTW: I've had a chance to speak with the seller, Eagle Light, and they are good people to deal with.

There are better bulbs that output brighter and warmer light for the same price or less.
I would not recommend this light for indoor use due to it's cold (blue) color temperature ( 5500K ? ) nor would I recommend this light for outdoor use due to it's narrow beam and brightness (or lack thereof). I give it two stars instead of one only because it is not truly dysfunctional

I don't think the technology is there yet for using LED's in a floodlight format
