Mediocre at best 3.5 stars, July 13, 2006
This review is from: C.O.D. (Audio CD)
I was recently listening to Sirius Satellite radio and "The Payback" comes on The Wonder Twinz show via Hip Hop Nation. Immediately I began nodding my head to the beat and hearing this cat spit fluid rhymes so I think to myself "Finally another respectable MC is emerging and hip hop is on it's way back to rhyme skillz". Wrong, I ordered this CD from here on amazon and listened to the album front to back left feeling cheated. Most of the songs on the album are mediocre at best chock full of club bangers. Lyrically Ray Cash could be a legendary MC from a city where lyricist are rare, instead the album is more geared towards the appeal of today's generation of "hip hop" fans. The overall production on the album is nice but the content is all too familiar. If you're a fan of lyricsim I wouldnt recommend picking this one up. If you like club bangers and southern type rap music this may be a gem you're willing to cop. Maybe his sophmore album will be a little less mainstream and focus more on his content.
Overall Album Breakdown: 1-5
Lyrics (content/delivery) 3.5
Production 3.5
Guest appearances 4
Replay value 3
Stand out tracks: (The Payback, Here I stand, Better Way feat. Beanie Sigel)

Ray Cashes In {3 Stars}, July 12, 2006
This review is from: C.O.D. (Audio CD)
I'd really like to examine the music collections of the people giving this five stars. I'm guessing that most of these people are listeners from the "post-Diddy" era. The fact that most of the 4 and 5 star reviews come from Cleveland/Midwest residents isn't a coincidence either.....so can you really expect them to be objective? Probably not.
The fact is, this isn't a bad album. There are some pretty good tracks on the album and the production is good for the most part. "The Payback" has a nice beat and the scratches and cuts are tight. Ray seems to be at his best when he actually has something to say though. "Better Way", "Here I Stand", and "F*ck Amerikkka" would be perfect examples of that. "Bumpin' My Music" is tight. I think most of us know that already. "Livin' My Life" and "The Bomb" help to bolster the rest of the LP. The sound of the album is bass heavy and dark, but it works well for Ray.
I noticed cats saying that Ray Cash is bringing back lyricism. From what I hear, Ray Cash is good...but let's slow down with the "great" talk. Just because a rapper doesn't suck doesn't make them great. There's a middle ground between the two extremes -- average. Ray seems to fall flat when he lowers himself and covers the average, everyday topics that every thug of the week is covering (pimpin', "haters", drugs, money, etc..). There are a few passable tracks on the album like "Sex Appeal (Pimp In My Own Mind)" and "Dope Game" which suffer from boring production. Also, "Smokin and Leanin", "P***y A** N***as", and "Fiends Fiends Fiends" are pretty much skip material.
Cash On Delivery is a solid release. It's nothing out of this world, but you won't be mad at yourself for buying it. The production for the most part is solid, but what Ray Cash has to say isn't anything you haven't heard already. Like I said already, Ray seems to be at his best when he actually covers topics worth hearing. But since that happens on less than half the album, I can't give him four stars. I'd recommend that those that are iffy about getting this go ahead and download it first. I'm curious as to what his next album is going to be like though.
Standout Tracks: Livin' My Life, Bumpin' My Music feat. Scarface, Here I Stand, The Payback (My Favorite), F*ck Amerikka, The Bomb feat. Yummy, and Better Way feat. Beanie Sigel
