It makes no sense to brush your dog or cat's teeth with a paste that contains sugar (dextrose). The pets will injest the dextrose. I got too uncomfortable with the idea of using a paste that has dextrose. That defeats the purpose of brushing teeth.
I now use Cain and Able Kissable pet toothpaste (vanilla) which has no dextrose in it. Petrodex Natural toothpaste is also free of dextrose, but I prefer the Cain and Able Kissable. I buy it through amazon.com.

The dogs enjoy their nightly tooth-brushing with this toothpaste. The flavor makes it very palatable for them and they sit anxiously awaiting their turn. They view it as a fun sort of treat and that makes life simpler for us as we realize the value of brushing their teeth.

My cats LOVE this toothpaste - especially the poultry flavor! They look forward to it and 'demand'it in the morning before breakfast (no toothbrush required). Their vet is very impressed with the health of their teeth at 8 years old. Try it out, your kitty will probably like it.

Pet Toothpaste
There are other brands of pet toothpaste available but my animals prefer this one. Used to get it from our vet but Amazon is much lower in price.
