5.0 out of 5 stars candiria rules, i am suprised, March 3, 2004

well, i was told by a friend how awesome candiria is. I have never heard them before. so today i was in a store and i was looking for something cool to buy. i found various cds that i would have liked to purchase. i was about to make a said purchase when i happend to remember my said friend saying how good they are and that i should check them out. now, i hardly ever make a purchase without hearing the band before, i can count on my hand the number of times i have done this and proably still have some fingers left over. well anyway, i went to the candiria section and bought the only cd they had one of them, which is obviously this one. Well, I must say i am pretty blown away by them. they blend rap, jazz, and metal like no other band i've heard. i mean, this isn't some faint jazz beats they have put in the music: it's jazz to the core. there is one song on here that has bongo drums, screaming, and heavy guitar...all at the same time, blending into a awesome song. This is probalby the most diverse metal band I have ever heard. track 3 and 11 are pure instrumental jazz tracks, and track 6 is a shorter instrumental that lends amazingly into the chaos that is track 7.

there is another disk that comes with this but I will not say anything about it. it's just a preview of the artists that are going to be on candiria's own record label THE COMA IMPRINT. some of the songs on there are crap but a few are decent. basically, this disk is a throwaway and i won't ever listen to it again.

thankfully, even with this double cd set, it's still regular price so you are still only paying for the amazing candiria cd. I have been told that this is a remastred, rerecording of one of their first, hard to find cds, all the songs have been added too and stuff. pretty cool idea if i do say so myself.

all in all, this my first candiria album and it will not be my last. i will buy another from them ASAP :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good God!, May 4, 2003

When I found out that Candiria was re-releasing Beyond Reasonable Doubt with new tracks and a new mix, I immediately donned an ear-to-ear smile. Beyond Reasonable Doubt (for anyone who isn't familiar, BRD was released before Process of Self-Development; this album is essentially just a re-release of that album with several new tracks and several tracks excluded) easily ranks up there with Process of Self-Development in my humble opinion, and is more cohesive and complicated in the same breath.

"Paradigm Shift" easily is representative of just about everything Candiria does; I catch myself laughing at some of the transitions because they manage to stay together despite their complexity.

About my only complaint about the CD is some of the changes in the mix; for instance, in the original mix for "Faction," I could have sworn that during the first funk/bassline breakdown that there was a piano somewhere in the back. On this disc, it's completely gone. Disappointing, but such is life -- On the other hand, the group's decision to cut the vocalist from Shutdown's guest vocal contributions from the same song is more than welcome. Shutdown, yuck. *shudder*

5.0 out of 5 stars RAISING the BAR, December 31, 2004

As I walked into the music store my ears IMMEDIETLY took note. Like a magnet I was drawn to the corner where the speaker hang. For 2 minutes straight my head was slowly bobbing in awe with mouth wide open. Called my freind over, said "listen to this, this is it!" Metal/fusion/jazz/hip-hop all blended together to form what I would consider one of the best collections of METAL talent. A sound with hints of Sepultura, Pantera, Sacred Reich, Soulfly, Hatebreed and Primus among others. The crunchiest and tightest of rhythms segway into offbeat jazz that make you wonder if this drummer has 8 arms and a computer brain. Gangsta-rap meets Marley only to be obliviated by riffs that would make a grandma bang her head. An extraordinary blend of metal phenoms capped by killer vocals, crazy growls and a feeling of rage raise this band to the top of the CD collection. A real treat!!!!!
