Unlike the previus reviewer i can not hear anything wrong with the recording. First-rate music and musicians.

Whoever pays a premium price for this out-of-print work may well be irate. The musicians are fine, as have been almost everyone associated with William Christie, but there are serious audio problems. I downloaded the entirety onto my computer and transferred it to a disc, and was disappointed to hear feedback in the soprano arias, indistinct sound in other parts and curiously distant choral sections, suggesting that this was a live performance somewhere, though none was identified.
I somehow doubt that the downloading process was responsible for this inadequacy; probably it's a problem with the original recording. Sadly, I think it's best to wait for a better version to emerge unless you absolutely have to have "Israeliten in Der Wuste" and/or are willing to take a chance that my problem with it was unique. |
