This is a well constructed revolving punch. It works fine ... although I have so far used it solely for punching holes in leather belts.

One piece of advice that I got from a tailor who has used these revolving punches since the 1970's ...

To prolong the sharpness of the punch edges, put a small piece of strong cloth (denim works fine) above the striker plate (under the leather to be punched). If you inadvertently apply too much force, the punch would bore through the leather and the impact absorbed by the cloth pad above the striker plate. (You would now be 'over-punching' through the leather belt into the cloth pad - instead of 'crashing' the punch against the metal base).

TIP: For those really tough punch hole jobs, I use this technique ...

Hold the lower handle (the one with the striker plate) firmly on a flat surface (like a wooden work table).
With the lower punch handle anchored on the table top, I simply have to press ONLY the upper handle to bring down the revolving punch head. Using this technique, I can now punch holes in my thick leather belts with less effort!

Hope these tips are helpful ...

When I first received this in the mail, I was a little skeptical about the quality of the tool. The picture shown here isn't the same as the one I received, but aesthetics aside, I was feeling a little put off. The packaging seemed a little flimsy, but once I wrestled it free and removed the safety clamp, I began to feel a lot better. First of all, this thing feels SOLID. Nice and heavy, not something that would break in the middle of using it. I originally bought this to punch and extra hole into a watch strap that was too long, and at first I thought the smallest size puncher was too large...not so. It made a hole nearly identical to the ones originally on the strap. It was a tiny bit bigger, but who's going to notice that? Especially if it's a dual-deploy clasp? In any case, I am very pleased with the results.

I have reasonably good hand strength, but not a lot of it. I don't like flimsy tools, but on the other hand, I didn't want to spend 60 bucks for a pro-level tool for my limited short-term needs which were to punch new holes in some belts I really like but which no longer fit. This tool is not flimsy, to me. It feels solid, more solid than I would have predicted reading some of the other reviews here.

I did not come at this with an expectation that this tool at this price would punch through thick leather belts as easily as a paper puncher goes through one page of paper, and it doesn't. It took me two or three squeezes per hole, but it did get through without straining or breaking the tool (in my limited test), and with hand strength to spare, for me. (If you can use a handheld paper puncher to get through about 5-7 sheets of paper at once, you should be able to use this tool to get through a leather belt in two or three squeezes without hurting your hand or feeling like you were straining.)

Some tips: Don't just eyeball the hole you want to punch; use a ruler to measure carefully the interval between existing holes (which varies) and especially to line the new hole up correctly with the old ones. Then mark the hole you want to make with a sharpie. You can punch from the front side of the leather towards the back, but if it doesn't go all the way through, keep going at it from the same side. Don't try to meet it halfway from the other side, because you'll be slightly off and end up with an oval hole. I also liked this tip from another reviewer here: to reduce your chances of damaging the tool, put a thick cloth between the back of the leather and the backer plate, so when you punch through, you hit the cloth, not the backer plate which would damage the tool if you were using too much force.

This tool is a good value for punching through a few belts; I'm very pleased and would recommend it for that purpose.

I bought this because I bought a belt that was way to big for me and I didn't want to return it. It will also come in handy when my husband wants to buy a new belt because it has gotten too small, hehe. I'm no Wonder Woman so I was worried I wouldn't have enough muscle to actually punch a hole in a leather belt, and luckily I was wrong. If I can use it so can you!! I like how it has different sizes for the belt holes. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

One of the easiest products to use, especially for people without any previous experience. This hole puncher for belts is a necessity for our store because we sell belts, but anyone who owns many belts, will also find this product to be a lifesaver at times.

The price is also very affordable and the different options for hole sizes make this product even more versatile.

Product arrived quickly and was easily used as I put it right to work. If you need a leather punch, this will do the job. Beats take a large nail or a center punch trying to do the same thing. Should have bought this a long time ago.

This product failed in normal use, the second time I used it, while punching holes in a leather belt. I have discarded it to the trash.

It became unserviceable by twisting out of shape while hand pressure was applied , with an arm disengaging from the rotating drum containging the punch elements.
