CA etrust internet suite,
By
This review is from: CA eTrust Internet Security Suite r1 (CD-ROM)
This suite of products and the support offered are pathetic. I have spent countless hours installing and uninstalling etrust to correct one problem or another. When you click on 'help' you get sent to their internet 'on line store' instead of the traditionalhelp by topic/keyword that is used by every other software producer. It is basically just that, a store for selling their products and, oh by the way, you can click an item for support or what CA considers support. The information available is incomplete, incorrect and you constantly get sent back to a page you already viewed. Their knowledge base is a non-knowledge base. I spoke to an alleged support person for what seemed like hours and all he did was send me back to the on-line store web site. After I finally got the fix to one of my problems from him I suggested that the fix be included in the knowledge base (which it should have been) he did not think that was a good idea!!! On my latest problem, which is in the new improved version, a function that worked before is not functioning at all. I got an email from support on how to fix it (the fix did not work). Then, without being asked, I immediately received an email stating that the problem has been solved and they are closing my case file! CA is off of my list for good.

piece of junk!!!,
This review is from: CA eTrust Internet Security Suite r1 (CD-ROM)
after 3 hours of installing this piece of junk, i finally got it to work. I initially have ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6 (I have to uninstall this prior to installing etrust, because disabling it still won't work), and the antivirus detected some viruses (especially java viruses) but didn't have the option to delete them when cleaning failed. So I got a retail copy of eTrust internest security suite r1 and hope to remove them. It detects the same viruses and files, but just like ZA, it can't remove it!(btw, it seems that eTrust borrows the same TrueVector firewall technology from ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm borrows the same antivirus engine from eTrust. the firewall that eTrust has it's exactly the same as ZoneAlarm with a different logo). I'm a big mcafee virusscan fan (used to be a norton fan too until norton AV 2004) and the virusscan removed the same viruses from my laptop promtly. I thought i'll give etrust a try, since its supposely free after rebates, but this experience has left me no choice to but to doubt its value. in the end, i went to bitdefender free online scan and it removed 9 infected files!!! even those in restore directory!! now my desktop is all clean!!! check out the reviews on etrust and none is positive!

Save your money........not as good as the freebies,
This review is from: CA eTrust Internet Security Suite r1 (CD-ROM)
Got the eTrust Suite as part of a monitor package. Installation was fairly straightforward - no problems. User interface is pretty clunky with a lot of unnecessary clutter. Software works OK except for the firewall. I lose ability to get on the internet 3 to 4 times daily. Only solution I've found is to shut down and restart the firewall (or reboot).Went online. The CA knowledge base is a joke. It's been set up by people with full knowledge of CA's product lines. No one there has given the slightest thought to setting it up so a new customer can use it. (BTW - try to find the release # anywhere on the eTrust software??) I finally found a couple of articles addressing problems similar to mine and tried the fixes with no success. Finally decided to submit a tech support request. Filled out a poisonously long form requiring everything except waist size. I patiently described the problem in detail and included everything I'd already tried to solve it. For my trouble I received a form email 12 hr. later with a solution that didn't work (I'd already tried it from their knowledge base). And of course there was no way to reply to the email. Their first email was followed immediately by a second one declaring CA was happy to know my problem was solved and inviting me to fill out a tech support survey. Believe me, I did. With [...] this software ranges from inexpensive to free. At free it's still overpriced. I'm going to dump eTrust and go back to ZA, AVG, AdAware and the other freebies. At least they work. Surprisingly, CA's firewall appears to be Zone Alarm Pro with a thinly disguised facelift. ZA has always worked great for me. It requires a lot of talent to take a good product and screw it up but CA has succeeded.
