Book Description

"I stood in the middle of the room, unmoving – I barely breathed. My life had just become surreal, impossible, and one enormous lie. I needed to go, to run somewhere, anywhere to beat back the reality that was rapidly closing in around me. The image of him was burned into my retina, flashing over and over again like a warning. He was trapped somewhere between human and decidedly not, and I realized that was my new reality.
I was too."

After the death of her parents, Ruby awakens from a lifetime of shadows and finds herself alone, thrust into a world of lies, deceit, betrayal and the supernatural.
As her quest for truth continues to come up short, she realizes that maybe some questions really are best left unanswered.
When her true identity is finally unveiled, she is forced to choose between two of the mysterious men who continually seem to crop up in her life.
She chooses poorly.
Now abandoned, Ruby must learn to call on the darkness within to survive, or spend a hellish eternity imprisoned because of it.

(Content Advisory: language, mild violence)

"Caged is very much plot driven and when paired with Ruby’s outstanding voice this story quickly becomes next to impossible to put down.
Natusch’s descriptions are spellbinding without putting even the smallest damper on the endless action. It might be an indie publication but rest assured, you’re in for a wild ride. With a riveting narrative and a story line that just doesn’t quit; this book is a must read for any and all paranormal fiction junkies." ~Carmel

"Caged could very possibly be one of the best Urban Fantasy novels I have ever read." ~Jena Gregoire,

"This is a story that starts with a bang and then keeps on going."

"A well written and edited book, which has an equally gripping beginning that doesn’t quite let up, until the very end."

"I'll admit that CAGED sucked me in, and I bought HAUNTED the minute I finished it." ~Connie Suttle, bestselling author of the Blood Destiny series

3.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Cover January 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was surprised to find that 98% of the 44 reviewers who posted had only reviewed this one book. Finding that suspicious, I downloaded the free chapters and was pleasantly captured into the story. I bought the whole book and while I enjoyed the story, I did not like the main character, Ruby. She is whiny and sarcastic all the time, without ever giving the reader a reason to empathize with her. That said, the author creates a great story that is full of edge of your seat action.

Spoilers:
Ruby's parents are killed and she is rescued and goes from being blind to having sight. She has no one in the world but the guy who saved her, Sean, and he keeps just "showing up" in her life. Then she meets Eric and makes some really bad (insert STUPID here) choices. She is afraid of Sean who is an assassin who kills her kind so she leaves with Eric to hide. Ruby, with the help of a new friend Conner, attempts to escape.

Problems I had with this story: 1) The beginning was too confusing: I did not know if the main character was a boy or girl for too long and was confused by why she couldn't see and then could. 2) For being 28 years old, she acts like she is 13; she is quick tempered, has a sarcastic attitude ALL THE TIME, bitter and unlovable. And seriously, she jumps to wrong (stupid) conclusions every single time. 3) Question that gets old: "you really don't know ....?" NO ONE will ever fill her or the reader in. They just keep asking the stupid question then not answering it. 4) There is a DETAILED description of what the characters are wearing every time they got dressed. 5) There is little to no romance.

Other warnings: there are some editing issues such as missing words or repeated words in a sentence.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really Disappointed September 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I rarely find a book that I don't like, and I never go without finishing a book series. However, I just can't find myself wanting to read the second book. Ruby just isn't a character that I enjoy. She is just annoying, unlovable, and a little dense. I just can't relate and like a character that has no interest in liking herself. Also, the "relationships" she has with Eric and Sean throughout the book are just poorly written and pretty well void of all emotion. The only character that I enjoyed in the book was Cooper. Also, the book just leaves way to many story lines out. There are alot of blanks throughout the book. All in all, not pleased with the purchase, and I don't think I will try the author again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Annoying protagonist. February 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'll start with I didn't finish the book. I got almost half way when I decided I couldn't keep going. I skipped around through to the end. This is very very rare for me. I don't usually ever not finish a book I've started. I'll review what I read though and explain why I had to put this book down.

The beginning started off well, it introduced us to a sarcastic, kind of funny girl. I kind of liked her and then my opinion on Ruby just went downhill from there. She said a few things that made me smile, but mostly she was whiny and got angry way too easily and became unreasonable hateful in some scenes. I kept thinking about how sensitive she was about everything and even though she had been through a trauma, it just started to get really annoying. I just couldn't relate to her character.

I felt like before we find out the secret, theres not a real plot:
Ruby goes to work, Ruby dances, Ruby shops, Ruby hangs out with Sean, Ruby describes what she's wearing, Ruby gets pissy, Ruby hangs out with Sean again,Ruby gets pissy again, Ruby shops again.... you get the point.
The fact that Ruby is really irritating and thinks she's wittier than she really is makes this part of the book almost unbearable. I was ready to put the book down by the time Eric showed up on the scene.

I noticed the story spent a lot of time describing what each character was wearing, jeans, shoes, shirt.. Diesel, Jimmy Chu, Armani.. I don't care what people are wearing, just get to the point. It's really unnecessary. I got to about 30% and I was like, "What the heck, isn't this supposed to be a supernatural, fantasy novel?" There was no fantasy aspects through any of this. It took way too long to get the the big reveal, chapter 19, and it was so annoying to be out of the loop for so long.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT! December 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I could not put this book down. Literally, I was the woman standing in line at the grocery store reading it on her phone. I was the woman standing in line at the post office reading it on her phone. I was the woman who ignored her husband as he was trying to talk to her about something...I have no clue what, I was reading...because I was drawn into this book from page one. The main character, Ruby, is eerily similar to many women I know. She is real. She is sarcastic. She is tough. She is brutal. She is crazy. I love her. The story line will grab a hold of you and not let go. Even now, after I have finished reading it, I want more. I cannot wait to read the second book in this series. I miss Ruby dearly. I am ecstatic that there will be more for me to ignore in the future when I continue reading this series. I may even be the woman who tells her four year old to get his own milk from the fridge...oh wait, I did that already.

More About the Author

So I stole this directly from the Biography page in CAGED. It's my take on the traditional "About the Author". Enjoy.

If you're dying to know more about me, allow me to put you at ease. I'm a sharp-tongued, sarcastic cancer, who loves vegetable smoothies, winter storms, and the word "portfolio". I should NEVER be caffeinated, and require at least eight hours of sleep to even resemble a human being. At thirty-four, I just now feel like I can keep a straight face while saying the word "rectum" (which is actually a huge lie because I just laughed out loud while reading this to my husband). I live with my iPod firmly affixed to my body, drive too fast, and laugh/cry at inappropriate times.

At the end of every novel I'll be attempting to recreate this magic with more random facts about me.

Stay tuned... www.amberlynnnatusch.com
