5.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough to Pass, October 22, 2010
This review is from: CAIA Level I: An Introduction to Core Topics in Alternative Investments (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
While it may seem intimidating at a glance, Anson's book is surprisingly readable for what seems like an academic text. It gives a thorough review of the material needed to pass CAIA Level I, and provides thoughtful examples without getting too detailed. I would recommend this not just to those who are sitting for CAIA Level I, but also those with a general interest in alternative investments. If you are considering taking the test, I would strongly encourage it.

5.0 out of 5 stars CAIA Level I: An Introduction to Core Topics in Alternative Investments, August 22, 2011
This review is from: CAIA Level I: An Introduction to Core Topics in Alternative Investments (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
Thus far, the book appears to provide a solid review of the subjects of Venture Capital and Private Equity which I specificly purchased the book for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great reference book for investment professionals, August 1, 2011
This review is from: CAIA Level I: An Introduction to Core Topics in Alternative Investments (Wiley Finance) (Hardcover)
I won this book during an investment conference, planning to take the CAIA exam since I work in the alternative investment field. This book goes beyond just a regular textbook. The author has extensive work experience as a CIO of CalPERS, and his insights into hedge funds and private equity funds (areas I'm in) are very helpful. The brief history of how the industry started also gives some nice perspectives. I already recommended this book to two professional friends. It gets the basics down and more.

There are lots of other hedge fund books out there, but I don't think they're as practical and relevant. If not for the exams, you should still get this as a reference book if you work in the alternative investment field.
