I purchased two of these. While the temperature gauge seems to work fine, not too much can be said for the relative humidity. The advertising states no calibration needed. Nor can any calibration be done. There are two different readings always within 6% of each other. So which one is accurate?? Who knows??? It tells me there is a lot to be said for the quality control and waste of money. Not recommended. Try something else.

This is a fantastic little piece of equipment, and the price absolutely cannot be beat!

Because of the cheap prices of most small hygrometers, I actually bought a couple of different ones. Well, this is the winner, hands down. It's incredibly accurate (both temperature and humidity) right out of the box, no calibration required.

Of course, the first thing I did upon receiving my hygrometers was test out the accuracy. The Caliber III was perfect right off the bat. The HygroSet II was the next closest (but not close enough), and finally the Analog Hygrometer was pretty far off. After calibrating the other two, they were much closer, but the Caliber III was the only one to stay consistent and accurate 100% of the time.

Considering the fact that it's actually cheaper than the HygroSet II, what's not to like about it? Well, okay maybe it's just slightly on the large side for some. I personally think it's fine. It's really not that big, but I guess there are smaller ones out there. However, as far as I'm concerned it is definitely the most accurate.

i have purchased a few hygrometers to finally buy this and finally got what i was looking for, something thats actually accurate.I also like the magnet mount.

Bought this to replace an old radio shack hygrometer that just became plain inaccurate. Overall works well, I compared accuracy to an old fashioned hair tension hygrometer and a new Honeywell upscale digital thermostat (Vision Pro Iaq). Well accuracy is fine until about 30-35% RH, below that the hydrometer has a 4-8% variance from the other two (which are within about 1-2% of each other). The lower the RH the worse the accuracy which seems to be the case for many digital hydrometers. Needless to say the Caliber III may work great for a humidor where one is measuring higher humidity levels but if you want to use this just to track humidity levels in a house in the midst of a midwestern winter, it doesn't measure as accurately for this.

What a jerk!! I would have never ordered if I knew they wouldn't refund for my item in unopened condition even if it did have 'excellent' reviews. Here's the "policy" if you can call it that:

"All return requests must be received in writing by CT POWER TOOLS within three (3) days from the date of receipt as posted on-line. Requests for returns after three (3) days will not be approved or credited. An industry standard twenty (20) percent restocking fee will be applied on all orders being returned for any other reason other than damaged merchandise.

You may return product provided it is new, unused, unopened and in its original packaging. You will note that a twenty (20) percent re-stocking fee will apply. Items not returned in this condition may be subject to an additional restocking fee.

All returns must have an approved RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number prior to arrival at our warehouse. Any order that arrives without an approved RMA # will be refused and sent back to the customer.

A copy of the original packing slip or order confirmation must accompany all returns. Credits and Replacements will be processed within 2-7 days from the time the return is received at our facility.

Damaged /Incorrect/Defective Items

Any item that is damaged in transit must be reported to CT POWER TOOLS within three (3) days of receipt to ensure we can process the appropriate claim. Damaged or defective items can be returned for replacement or refund at our sole discretion. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

Non- Defective Returns

Return shipping costs for Non-Defective Returns are the responsibility of the buyer. You will note that a valid RMA number must accompany the shipment. We reserve the right to apply a twenty (20) percent restocking fee on all orders being returned for any other reason other than defective or damaged merchandise.

Original shipping charges will not be credited if an item is refused for any other reason other than being damaged upon arrival. A 20% restocking fee will be applied and shipping charges will not be refunded.

The item must be in original or secure packaging to ensure safe arrival at our facility within ten (10) days of receiving return authorization. CT Power Tools is not responsible for any products lost/damaged during return transit. Please follow all return instructions outlined by our customer service department in your RMA email. Please be sure to note the RMA # clearly on the outside of the package.Ordered this product based on great reviews. Nowhere does this vendor state on this page that this product will not work for uses OUTSIDE the tightly controlled temp range of a cigar humidor.

They basically don't make refunds so now I am stuck w/ a piece of junk. At least I now know that vendors do post their policies online. Took some sorting through Amazon pages to find this out though.

This hygrometer has worked out great for me. My cigars are fresh and seasoned. It has removed all the guesswork. It works great, it is more than accurate enough for cigars, and it is inexpensive. What's not to like.

I bought this hygrometer with a calibration kit just to check it out, even though it can't be calibrated. I'd say it passed: The kit provides a 75.5±0.3 % RH environment, and the Caliber III read 74%, which is just outside of the advertised tolerance. The picture does not show how small it is; the device measures approximately 1"x4"x0.25". The only complaint that I can make is that the hygrometer does not have a full range; it can't measure humidity below 10% and there is an upper limit too (I don't know how high). In general it's cheap and accurate, making me a satisfied customer.

The manufacture claim of +/- one degree of relative humidity accuracy is pure snake oil. I tested mine with the standard salt test, which should give yield 75 degrees. This "instrument" displayed 62 degrees, and there is no provision for adjustment. The manufacturer has no telephone number or email, and no warranty information whatsoever. Don't be taken in!

How do you know if a tool is worth its salt? Put it through paces. A product having a good run in easy conditions is not necessarily a good product. There are a hundred hygrometers that will be correct in a test right out of the box but that doesn't mean it will hold up over time as conditions vary. However I can say 100% this is a solid product.

How can I be so sure? Well, I live in Michigan, a few miles from Lake Michigan, and the climate here is all over the place. Depending on the season outside ambient may be 90 degrees and 90% humidity or 50% humidity but at 5 or 10 degrees below zero. We're getting air that's either been over land or that's been picking up moisture from 100 miles of water depending on which way the wind blows. By the time the furnace or A/C is done with the air (or, heaven forbid, I want to leave the house open!) the air can be anywhere from crackling dry to almost see-your-breath humid at the extremes. Sometimes I have to move the humidor to the basement to get a proper stable temp which only adds another variable.

Knowing THAT my humidor's humidity needs a lot of tweaking is obvious. Knowing how much? How often? Which direction? That's a lot tougher because the humidity buffering of the cigars and cedar can make a big difference... and one bad adjustment can have permanent consequences.

However with a jug of distilled water (refilled a couple times) and a bottle of propylene glycol I've been able to keep conditions amenable for two *years* and running now thanks to this hygrometer even though my only humidification device is a plastic-cased piece of glorified floral foam. On some occasions I've smoked sticks out that have been stored for 12-18 months and they've had no leaf cracks, beetle holes, dusty mold stuff, etc.

If this test doesn't give you confidence this hygrometer will let you know what your humidor needs I don't know what will!

I purchased two of these and both are performing as stated. I used one of them to monitor my Taylor guitar. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to control the temp and humidity for their expensive equipment.
