You don't get a text display of the problem, you get a code like "P0388" that you look up in the provided manual (or just google it!

I used it on my 99' neon to figure out why I had an engine light. Make sure none of your fuses are blown when scanning..or else it'll read connection error..atleast for my car. It didn't work at first but now it does. Make sure your keys are in the on position or running. If its running you can't delete codes but you can view them..and if its off in the on position you can view and clear them. They'll come back eventually though so don't expect it to be a permanent clearing.

This tool did exactly what I ordered it for. It diagnosed the error code on my Mini Cooper 2002 and then cleared it. Good product! A real moneysaver over going to a garage.

Very easy to use and worked exactly as it should.
Some people have complained about the instruction translation, or that clearing the check engine light was difficult. It's not.

I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu. All I needed to do was plug this in (with the car off), turn the car to ON (don't start the engine) once the screen started, then hit ENTER to have it scan and ENTER again to view the code. There are explanations for the code in the back of the booklet. If you want to clear the code, you just need to hit SCROLL from the main menu and then ENTER. Hit ENTER to confirm you want to clear the code or SCROLL to cancel. Easy-peasy and took less than 5 minutes to do everything, walking out to my car included.

So easy a cave woman could use it. Very easy to use and has all the codes in the manual. You can also clear codes and check if the computer is ready for your car to be inspected after turning of the check engine light.

Works fine. Connector, cable and orange case are all sturdy materials.
LCD display is easy to read. Paper manual indexes all generic trouble codes and code definitions.
However, this OBD2 reader can only clear ALL the codes. It does not have the ability to delete one code at a time.
More costly OBD2 readers can clear one code at a time and this option is sometimes useful. Nice OBD2 scanner tool.

If you need to read and clear the engine codes of an OBD II car, and you're working with a tight budget, this reader is for you. You'll need to look up the code in a manual, but it works. Be aware that some parts of the manual may not be translated very well, but it probably doesn't affect the code listing.

To use the reader, insert the reader into the DLC outlet, usually located under the steering column somewhere. Put the key in ignition and turn it to the ACC (accessories) position -- that means turning on the electricity, but not starting the engine. The manual seems to say if you start the engine, you may damage the reader. After that, it's pretty self-explanatory.

Purchased with high hopes of diagnosing an engine problem but all it ever says is, "linking error." Sticker says the vehicle is OBD II compliant but i guess it just cannot communicate with a silverados computer. Or maybe something is wrong with this vehicles computer.?
