Bar looks really great as well.

The black oxide finish along with good (but not overly aggressive) knurling on the middle section provides an excellent gripping surface for all exercises.

I've only loaded the bar up to 500 lbs, but no concern of it handling more weight.

We are CrossFitters and ordered two of these bars in 2010 and another one about 6 months ago. They have gotten heavy use over the last 2 years (450+ deadlifts, constant clean and jerks, snatches, etc). We have bumper plates and they get dropped from shoulder height and overhead regularly. We love these bars and have never had any issues. The bars are still going strong even with our abuse and look almost new when we clean them up. I love the black (aesthetics really)and am happy to say that they haven't had any of the black scratch off or anything like that.
I had a cheaper bar before(came with a weight set) and it came apart after 5 workouts. Just a comparison. We don't baby our bars and these ones have held ups perfectly so far. (We can't tell which ones are 2 years old and which one is 6 months old).

When the bar arrived, it was in perfect condition... I checked the bearings, the straightness of the bar, everything. I wanted to test the tensile strength, so I loaded all 625 lb of weight that i own. It bowed when all the weight was on it, as expected, but when I took the weight off, the center of the bar was probably displaced a whole 1/2 centimeter -- and all the weight was on it for maybe 30 seconds! If I would have done some deadlifts, the bar would have been destroyed. I rolled the bar on the safety rails and watched it wobble away. I was so furious I called the distributor and requested a refund with a free pickup.

My opinion: pay the $200 for a York Power Barbell (1200lb) and save yourself the headache. This bar looks great, but it definitely is no 1000-lb barbell, even at static weight.

Bayou Fitness is one of the best companies I have dealt with. If you can do business with them, they'll work with you and go the extra mile. Thanks, Bayou!

This bar was recommended to me for home use by a well-known competitor of Cap. The bar that arrived is 44.4 lbs +/- .2 lbs, almost a perfect 20kgs (44.1 lbs) and accceptable for non-commercial/non-competition use. Collars spin freely. I've been using the Zinc coated version of the same bar for YEARS in my gym, and it's been great too, but decided against the Zinc because it's about $60 - 70 more. Cap Barbell Weight Lifting 2-Inch Silver Zinc Power Olympic Bar

My bar arrived fairly clean, with only some light oil (eg, clear chain oil) on it.

I almost didn't buy this Cap because of some negative reviews, so I started researching bars in the $280 - $380 range and found even those had complaints as well. Glad I took a chance on this Cap 1000 pounder.

This bar has fit my crossfit workouts nicely. I will NOT get anywhere near the rated weight capacity of this bar. But, with that being said, it is certainly a HUGE step over a standard 600 lb olympic bar. It's a very solid design and the ends of the bar are sealed (no worrying about tightening those annoying allen wrench screws on the ends of the bar)! I have used this bar for deadlifts up to the 330 lb mark and of course, I wasn't even close to it's rating. Since I use my bar for Crossfit / Metcon workouts, I do my fair share of Olympic style lifts. With my bumper plates on, I have no worries when I release (a controlled drop) of my weight from an overhead position (doing overhead push presses at 175 lbs). Just as a side note, I am NOT using metal weights. They are rubber bumper plates. The floor in my home gym is also not your typical garage concrete floor. It's 3/4" pine subflooring with 3/4" rubber gym mat flooring on top. That "softens" the blow a bit when I'm dumping this bar on my heavy workouts. The ends of the bar were not as pictured. The ends are not perfectly smooth but rather they are grooved. Very tiny grooves that make for a really good grip when attaching my Lock Jaw type barbell collars. The main part of the bar is the matte black color (as pictured here on Amazon). The knurling is flawless. I would definitely recommend this bar to those in the crossfit community.

Most of the other reviewers seem happy, so I gather the quality of these bars varies. I bought mine for home use, and after two months of heavy use in both power- and olympic lifting, the bar remains perfectly straight.

Unfortunately, there also are a couple of big negatives. The knurling is vicious -- the most aggressive I've ever seen on any bar anywhere -- and has already claimed several patches of my flesh. In addition, the ends are milled slightly smaller than a normal bar, so the weights rattle around badly and spring collars slide right off. This will likely cause my bumper plates to eventually fail sooner than they should have.

After buying it Monday morning, it got here 24 hours later as I literally just received the bar about an hour ago and straight to the point it is more than I expected. This is NOT a toy, as in the quality of it. I'm not exactly new to weightlifting, though this is the first time that I will have owned my own bar, will be doing anything serious with weights and at age 30. I actually plan to do powerlifting and follow one of the two main programs available for new lifters. That said you all can take my thoughts for what they're worth but they are pretty much the same as other recent reviewers.

*First off a tip to future buyers before my review: PAY FOR 1 DAY SHIPPING IF YOU CAN!*

I know we want to keep it as budget friendly as possible BUT I say this because of all the comments about the bar coming with slight damage to the sleeve on one side of the bar. The less time it's in transit, the less amount it's handled and hopefully the less chance there is for damage or extreme damage to the sleeves. That said and I won't withhold it, my bar did come with a very very very small chip on one of the sleeves as it had busted through the taped end. This is in NO way "Ed Fex's" fault, it is however the fault of Amazon or who ever tapes up the tubes before they ship out. Absolutely, without a doubt UNCALLED for with the way these bars are being shipped out! The tube is excellent for shipping them but they literally just put a few pieces of tape at one end, with a plastic cap at the other and expect a 45lb barbell to be shipped without the possibility of it breaking through! As they say, common sense doesn't seem to be so common these days! FFS use your head Amazon, come on! That goes for other companies that sell bars too!
