I purchased this book in anticipation of taking the CAPM exam. I told several of my co-workers about it as well because the concept seemed great - the study questions are aligned to the PMBOK Guide AND the answers show you why the correct answer is best.

I took and passed the CAPM exam today. Thank goodness I passed, or I would have been furious with the authors of this study guide. There are numerous, countless typos throughout the book. In some instances, the answers don't match the question AT ALL. It's completely different!
In other places, it will show that the correct answer is "b" for example. Then just below, where the explanations are written, the smiley face is next to a different answer choice.
Furthermore, there are basic simple typos and spelling errors.

I also felt that the guide contained a lot of "fluff". There were many study questions that have NOTHING to do with the PMBOK Guide and didn't help me prepare for the assessment.

There were so many errors that I started to doubt the usefulness of this guide. Now that I've completed the exam, I will say that it helps to see questions written in a similar format. Also, in studying this guide, I was able to go back and verify questions that I got incorrect or were in error in the book with the PMBOK Guide.
I plan on writing to the author as well. If the errors are corrected, I would feel better about giving this book a stronger recommendation.

Weak in construction and content based on the $47.45 price tag. Within the first two sections of questions, I found typos & and at least one error. The book is usable for practice but certainly not the caliber it is advertised to be.

This book is definitely a good investment if you are planning to take the CAPM exam. The structure of the study guide such as the explanation of the right and wrongs answers helps you further your understanding of the material. The only complaint I have is that there are several typos in the answer sections.

Introductory material is excellant to help the reader understand what to expect in the exam. The questions and answers clearly describe why the recommended answer will be the right answer. The text is only designed to help drill for the exam -- it does not present any concepts. For concepts you'll need the PMBOK and other texts.

I was very impressed by the book - especially its question and solution format. Having a reference into the PMBOK for each question was very helpful and helped me a ton when I got a question wrong. I also found the solution layout to be very instructional in that it not only told me why my answer was right or wrong but also told me why other very plausible distractors were not completely right. Very helpful.

The study guide was very informative and covered all areas that were on the actual CAPM test. The study guide only contains questions and answers and does not contain background/supporting information that is contained in the PMBOK. I believe the 2nd edition of the study guide is now in print and it addresses the few errors that I found in the 1st edition. The author was very responsive to the incorrect items that I found. The study guide was a contributing factor to helping me pass the CAPM exam.

I don't think I would have passed the CAPM test without this book. Her test taking tips were invaluable and ALL the answers to the practice questions are explained by referencing the PMBOK or explaining why the wrong answers are wrong. Definitely worth the price.

On December 3-4-5 of 2007 I took Aileen Ellis' 3-day PMP prep course, taught by Aileen herself (unlike many PMP prep courses where a nationally known figure is the sponsor, but some unknown instructors). We used this book, and its bigger companion, the PMP prep book, along with supplements. On 17 December 2007, I passed the PMP exam, largely on account of two factors: Aileen's knowledge and presentation of the technical PMI material, and my use of these books (which came with the course) to study for the exam. These books are an indispensable asset to anyone who needs to pass the PMP exam. Aileen's question are very similar to those I found on the exam, and she understands and represents in her books the mode of analytic thinking that must be mastered if one is to pass the PMP. The questions diverge between the CAPM and PMP exams, with those on the PMP being more complex and analytic, and those on the CAPM being more focused on specific recall of the PMBOK knowledge areas and processes. Still, the CAPM-type questions appeared on the PMP exam as well, and not in a small number. I would also note that Aileen's questions--especially those pertaining to contract types and the mathematical algorithms associated with them, and those pertaining to Arrow-Diagramming and Precedence-Diagramming techniques, are of the proper complexity level to prepare one not just adequately, but well, for the PMP and CAPM exams. She includes more of these kinds of problems than any of the competing works, and her problems are also set at a higher level of complexity. This latter is really helpful for those preparing for the exam, as the math-based questions can take huge amounts of time if one is not absolutely fluent with these algorithms and processes.

Having successfully used these materials to pass the PMP exam, and having had Aileen's instructional support throughout the preparation process, I would recommend them to anyone who seriously needs to get this certification in hand. I would also note that many of the graduates of Colorado Technical University's highly successful undergraduate and Master's programs also go through Aileen's exam preparation course and use these very same books, on their way to their successful completion of their PMP certifications. I recommend her works enthusiastically with full confidence of their benefit to those who use them.

Question-and-answer format complements the PMBOK guide, especially in the trickier areas. Use the questions to confirm your knowledge or to go back and look up specific areas of weakness.

I would recommend AME Group's CAPM Book for anyone studying for the CAPM Exam and AME Group's PMP Book for anyone studying for the PMP exam. AME Group's book, PMP Exam Practice Questions and Solutions, Release 1.5, was key in my passing the PMP exam on the first attempt and by a substantial margin! I think AME Group's books are 'must have' study material. AME Group's (Aileen's) questions and explanations of Best and Wrong answers accelerated the process of understanding content and the inter-relationships of the project management processes. For the CAPM Exam all you need is the PMBOK Guide and the AME Group Book. Also, I found Aileen's questions and solutions to be more representative of the exam than other references and much easier to digest.
