April 3, 1984
When John Curry, galloping across the desert to save the life of an Indian child, was thrown from his horse and badly injured, he was rescued by a woman whose husband became his deadly enemy. For Wilbur Newton was both jealous and afraid. He was jealous of the love of his beautiful and lonely wife, who seemed each day more powerfully attracted to the dashing Curry, and fearful for the safety of an ingenious scheme. 3.0 out of 5 stars A romance, not a real western?, September 23, 2008
By
This review is from: CAPTIVES OF DESERT (Paperback)
In Arizona in the Prohibition days a cowboy meets a beautiful married woman
and her liquor running husband. There are cars and reservation Indians in this novel. About the only thing that qualifies this as a western is that Zane Grey wrote it and where it is set. It gushes femininity like a Jane Austin novel... For all that it is well written and not really an unpleasant read. At the beginning there is a very good description of a snake dance.
