Safe and sound,
We first flew with this when my daughter was 18 months old. She had no problem settling in with this since it fit on her just like her 5-point car seat harness. According to the product site and according to the airline, as of December 2008 this is THE ONLY FAA certified device of it's kind. Our flight attendant even checked to ensure that it was a CARES device before we were allowed to use it. It takes just about 3 minutes to get it into place and get our girl strapped in - much faster than a carseat- and it folds right back into it's own tiny pouch when the flight is over. We always get our daughter her own seat and will continue to use the CARES system until she no longer requires a special restraint. If you travel infrequently there are also businesses that will rent the harness to you for less than it would cost to buy it if cost per use is holding you back. We are so happy we discovered this-it has made flying with our toddler a breeze (along with the portable DVD player!)

PLEASE READ - NOT WORHT THE COST for YOUNG TODDLERS WHO ARE ESCAPE ARTISTS OR HAVE A HARD TIME SITTING STILL FOR LONG TRIPS. NOT SAFE AT ALL. No center strap to go under the tush to prevent the toddler from sliding through.
I have lots of toddler accessory experience and am very educated when it comes to traveling items. We fly a lot with our children. This might work for old children or the ones who can sit for long periods of time, but defiantly not for a fussy toddler. Pain in the tush to put it on the seat. Have to disturb the person behind you to ask to drop their table to put the thing on and again at the end of the flight. Thank goodness my husband was there because doing this alone would be a nightmare with your toddler running around. I have a 2.5 year old and because there is not a center strap she would just slide down from underneath it and get out. NOT WORTH THE EXPENSE! I'm hoping to recover some funds by reselling it but will let people know it's for older kids. I wish I would have rented it first to try it out. The best thing is to use the car seat and put it on wheels or purchase the one that's for Air Travel. No extra stroller to carry on the plane and no problem getting through security. Also a seat is snap to put into the plane seat and definitely SAFER. If your where to be in an accident the child would slip right through the bottom verses a car seat. When she tried to take a nap it was very uncomfortable. We tried to use it 4 times - watching the video and trying different methods. If it had a center strap it would have been fine to use.

This review is from: CARES Child Aviation Restraint System (Baby Product)
Extremely pleased with the product and delivery! My son is 4 1/2 and not having to carry the car seat and stroller plus luggage was a great freedom! I secured the product at a good cost and it is FAA tested. The flight attendant passed us by (no joke) and said I am glad to see you using this I wish all parents used it for there children. I can't image not having something to secure our precious cargo in case of emergency. Heaven forbid something happens in the air not many really have the strength to hold a child securely in their arms. I saw another guy carrying the stroller and car seat and said to myself wow that's was me once upon a time :-). P.S. My son's comment I like this I am a big boy now! Priceless.
