Early Joao Gilberto Live, February 2, 2000
This review is from: CARNEGIE HALL CONCERT (Audio CD)
This is not the dog that the previous reviewer made it out to be. True -- Getz and Gilberto were not getting along when this concert was recorded during a national tour after the summer mega-hit release of Getz/Gilberto. It was October 1964 and Joao sings five songs (and one instrumental) with just a bass and drum for company. He is 31 years old and in his prime. Gentle personal singing with his syncopated guitar. Also true -- available as Getz/Gilberto #2. Worth it for the early live Joao Gilberto.

Getz / Gilberto #2 with a different title and cover, January 26, 1999

According to his biography, Stan Getz just ended an affair with Astrud Gilberto which broke up her marriage to the very shy Joao Gilberto.
Stan's band plays, Joao's band plays, they can't stand to be on the stage together, so they are play seperately.
Tolerable, but it's not the masterpiece Getz/ Gilberto (Verve).
