This DVD Set Is A Fraud, May 13, 2011
This review is from: CARTOON CARNIVAL "OVER 6 HOURS"[TRIPLE DVD PACK]"Mighty Mouse+Heckle & Jeckle+Woody Woodpecker+Betty Boop+3 Stooges+Casper+Popeye+Felix" (DVD)
This claims to be a set of "cartoon classics," but very few if any of the cartoons are or could be regarded as "classics."
The cartoons are all from the 1930's and 1940's, not from the golden age of cartoons from circa 1955-65.
A few of the cartoons are recognizable and could be regarded as classics in some sense, such as Betty Boop, Popeye, Felix the Cat, perhaps Caspar and Mighty Mouse. But there are very few of these. Most are works that are completely unknown and long forgotten, for good reason.
The animation is very crude on most and the cartoons neither entertaining nor funny.
Amazon, or whoever prepared the description of this set, also engaged in gross misrepresentation as to the contents. The second-billed cartoons are "Heckle & Jeckle." But there is not a single "Heckle & Jeckle" cartoon anywhere in the set. There is only the old, original precursor of the later "Heckle & Jeckle" cartoons called "The Taking Magpies." The magpies are never referred to as "Heckle & Jeckle." The Talking Magpies cartoon has one short funny part that foreshadows the later irreverant conduct in the real Heckle & Jeckle cartoons, when one of the Magpies climbs inside a big radio and gives a false broadcast to the homeowner. But ten funny seconds hardly substitutes for the falsely advertised, missing Heckle and Jeckel cartoons of ten or fifteen years later.
There are no cartoons with voice characterizations by Mel Blanc. Those are the true classics.
This set is not worth the cost of shipping.
