Good Blade, Cheap Scabbard,
By Bernard Quesnel "Humble Practitioner" (Trinidad & Tobago) - See all my reviews
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The actual blade itself is of a good quality, however the scabbard is made of plastic and this takes away from the beauty of the sword. It cheapens it. A wooden scabbard would have enhanced it more. Although the quick draw feature is good, there is no reason why it could not have been designed in wood. The blackened steel fittings go well with the sword. Overall a good sword but it could have been better with a wooden scabbard.

Good Sword for a Decent Price,

This review is from: CAS Hanwei Practical Gongfu Broad Sword (Sports)
I've been studying Martial Arts for a while, but have only owned Stainless Steel "Sword Like Objects".
First the Sword itself: I picked this sword up from Amazon after reading a review of it from the Sword Buyers Guide web site. I'm glad I did. The sword feels great and moves much more lively than the practice Broadswords I've been using. The point of balance on mine is about 5-6 inches toward the tip from the base of the blade. Total weight felt like about 1.5-2 pounds. The edge IS SHARP. This is not a toy. I'll say that again just to make sure you heard. THIS IS NOT A TOY. Care needs to be taken when you practice with the sword because the sharp edge could cause harm (to yourself, others, surroundings), however if you move slowly and get used to it, it is a worthwhile experience. As someone "stepping up" to real swords from stainless steel practice weapons, I'm taking it slow and going through and trying to be very respectful of the sword itself. If you find yourself in the same situation and still want the sword, great! Just don't expect to be able to use it the same way you do a blunted stainless steel weapon without first practicing with it for quite a while. Now, the scabbard: The scabbard is lacquered wood, with a slit about half way down the scabbard so the scabbard can conform closely to the sword shape. Its a cute design, but I'm not sure how practical it is. I dinged the sword 1 star for the scabbard design. Its not a major issue for the sword itself, but in terms of the "whole package" it is something that will definitely bother some people. Overall: Nice Quality, Lively Balance, Sharp Edge, So-So Impractical Scabbard Design |
