I have several Casio Protreks, and this one is the classiest looking watch out of any of them. The light is actually very good on it, as it has dual LEDs -- one that lights the digital window, and the other that lights up the dial. So it is very easy to read the entire dial when illuminated by the light. This Protrek also uses "version 3" of Casio's triple sensor for ABC watches, which is their most advanced version. Far from a toy, as another reviewer suggested, this watch will give you accurate compass, altimeter, and barometer readings. It is a nice size with about a 46mm diameter case, a carbon fiber strap, and is extremely comfortable. I'm very happy with it.

I really like it. The only thing is that one button (display button) was making noise (many times) when I pressed it. Fortunatelly, the noise went away.
I went scuba diving and no issue with water inside the watch.
The compass is quite accurate. I have tested it several times and works good.

Great looking watch! Comfortable to wear. Lots of bells and whistles. Easy to set. The only downside, and this could be because it's the japan version, is that my timezone (HLX) does not permit the "auto daylight saving" setting option. I have to set it manually. I did not have this problem on my old PAW-2000T.

Although I was excited by the potential this watch offered (I've owned 3 Protreks in the past) I was let down, not by the seller but by Casio. The watch looks good but is not ready for primetime. it responds more like a toy than a professional instrument. I called Casio USA to ask, "What's up with this watch?" I was acknowledged with the fact that quite a number of buyers are not happy with the watches' alarm system because only a select portion of customers will actually be able to hear the frequency pitch of this extremely quiet alarm. Even in a quiet room by myself I could not hear the alarm. Unfortunately, that's just the way it is. You'd think after so many years of manufacturing the ProTrek line Casio would get it right, especially on such a relatively expensive model as this one. I was also unhappy with the night lighting system. Now needing glasses the partial illumination and dim light does not make the dial readable. I sent my Casio back after so much initial excitement about this watch and the technology it advertised. What a let down. Even the barometer feature does not work properly. One needs to continually reset it according to the current altitude. I felt like a kid at a candy store that had just shut down and couldn't deliver the goods. I ended up going with Garmin's Fenix 2 professional athlete watch although I am not an athlete but a middle aged guy who loves geeky stuff. The Fenix 2 is a very cool watch, a powerful tool and not a toy like the Casio ProTrek. Compare and contrast for yourself. Try both and see what you discover. I especially like the readability of the Fenix 2, the way the whole watch lights up at night whereby even without reading glasses I can see the time, the vibrating alarm feature is really cool (can wake up from a dead sleep with it).Read more ›
