Good Effort in a Hallowed Venue,
By Mark E. Tippery "Guitar & Pinot Noir" (Arlington Heights, IL United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: CBGB OMFUG Masters: Live 6/29/01 The Bowery Collection (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because of the wonderful potential of the listening experience of the unique Mooney Suzuki playing a show in one of live music's most storied venues. The show was well recorded and the sound quality is overall very good. However, the music failed to capture the essence of the band or the place. At times the energy level sounds as if everyone is tired from a long night...or an early morning; audience and band alike. For thoses looking to get a better taste of this band I would point you to "Electric Sweat" as an alternative. I do feel that this is a valuable CD for my collection, if nothing else to preserve a piece of the significant history of CBGB.
