A re-hash,

This review is from: CBS: First 50 Years (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of TV theme songs, then you probably already have the "TV Tunes" series, so forget this one. Not only is it a re-hash of tracks from their other cd's, they STILL include (and here's what makes my blood boil) their own crummy remakes of certain theme songs, such as "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "WKRP in Cincinatti" and "Gilligan's Island". Avoid this. Make your own by taping the songs off the TV and it would be far, far better.

A Rehash of Lousy Copies,
By Amazon.com Customer (Huntsville, Alabama United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: CBS: First 50 Years (Audio CD)
I agree with the music fan from Dearborn, Mi. It is a re-hash of a lot of crummy remakes and poorly recorded originals. I recorded Rawhide and Gilligan's Island off my TV set with better sound, as well as the original and superior versions of the Twilight Zone and Wild Wild West (with a cool guitar riff, not this Mantovani styled remake). If you really don't care about these type of things, then this is the disc for you. Avoid this if you are a true television theme aficionado.

TV FANS DREAM!,
By A Customer
This review is from: CBS: First 50 Years (Audio CD)
Any fan of tv needs this cd. I saw a previous listener lambasted this cd, what he/she said was untrue. While some of the songs may have been redone (VERY few), they are either to a) make them longer, or b) bring the sounds up to par with the others. Some of the original recordings would just not have held up. This cd even includes a rare rendition of the infamous All In The Family theme sung by Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton with additional lyrics. The only notable songs left out from the CBS collection are Newhart (82-90) and Maude. The Golden Palace would have also been nice, but it is still a wonderful cd.

What! No Magnum P.I.?,
By supertim96 (TEXAS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: CBS: First 50 Years (Audio CD)
If I'm not mistaken, Magnum P.I. aired on CBS in the 1980s - yet, it isn't on this CD. Thank goodness they managed to remember Dukes of Hazzard - too bad they left off the "yeeeeeeee-haawww" at the end. Oh well, can't have it all, right? :( Overall, not too bad.

there are only a few tunes here that sound like the originals i grew up with.the complete Gilligan's island theme is the real deal, and that recording sounds good.the best"oldie"television theme songs can be found in the television's greatest hit's series which is out of print and(whew)expensive.

Awful,
This review is from: CBS: First 50 Years (Audio CD)
CBS should be embarrassed by this release. This collection is like going to a 4 star restaurant, ordering a baked Alaska and getting a pop tart with ice cream on a fancy plate. Aside from a few of the themes at the end of the disc (Everybody Loves Raymond, Cosby, etc.), the rest is taken from TVT's lousy collection of re-recordings and off-air low quality versions. The producers try to add to the nostalgic intent of the disc by placing sound clips of various historical events throughout. but with the poor renditions of the themes, it's like watching a movie with bad special effects - it just takes you right out of the moment. Anyway, if you own the first 3 TVT "TV's greatest hits" CD's, then you don't need this.
Just a note - when the first TVT "TV's greatest hits" lp came out in the mid 80's, the low quality was understandable. It was a fledgling company and couldn't afford to put out a product of high quality. When this CD came out, they were well established, which only leads me to believe that they were just plain lazy and cheap. 1 star is for the recent original themes added to the end of the disc.

I really enjoy listening to this album and they must make a sequal to this called "CBS at 75" since the network celebrated it's 75th aniversary, and I would like these themes on the next album:
1.Magnum P.I. 2.Mister Ed 3.The NFL Today(One of the themes that it had throughout it's run, at least) 4.Newhart 5.Falcon Crest 6.Maude 7.Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. 8.Survivor 9.The Amazing Race 10.C.S.I. 11.CBS Evening News 12.Peticoat Junction 13.The Munsters 14.The Honeymooners 15.The Price is Right 16.CBS Movie theme from the 80's 17.CBS News Sunday Morning 18.King of Queens Those are just 18 picks of mine. Anything else is OK too.

It's that simple. |
