4.0 out of 5 stars I bought it for a garage door opener light
I have a fairly old Sears chain garage door opener that was killing light bulbs about once/week. This light is immune (so far) to the vibration.

Even though this is very dim (60 lumens versus 1085 lumens in a 75 watt bulb), it at least puts some light in the garage until my other automatic lights go on when I get out of the car.

After reading the 2 previous reviews I wasn't expecting much light output from the bulb, so I wasn't really disappointed. The light output is about that of the coleman battery powered camping lanterns, which is to say not bright but "bright enough" when you really need light. While it is somewhat dispersed the light mostly seems to shine more or less straight out the top of the bulb, and so would make an excellent choice for a directed reading lamp. I will use it in my bedside table lamp since I really only need to see well enough to get dressed in the morning. You'd probably need 2 or 3 such bulbs to adequately light a small room such as a bathroom if it is going to be your main lighting source and not just an accent light. While perfect for "off grid" homes where extreme measures of conserving energy are crucial, the price would have to come down to make sense for most of you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very bright, March 16, 2006

I got this for christmas. I thought to put it in my lamp in my room, but it is not bright enough for that. I'd say it is about like a 40 watt bulb, except that it doesn't shine all over the place, just in front of itself. It's probably best for places you want a weird dim light on all the time. For that application, I would say this is the perfect bulb.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dim blue light, February 9, 2010
By
This review is from: CC.Vivid Plus 36-LED Light Bulb (Tools & Home Improvement)
Please note that this is a very dim bulb. I purchased Crane lights (including this one)about two years ago. Have not purchased any more since. It is NOT bright enough for reading. This bulb will work well as a porch light or such thing, but LIGHT IS VERY BLUE.

A high quality globe style LED bulb good enough for reading will cost about $40 - $50.00. If used a lot, it will pay for itself in a few years. If not used a lot, it will likely outlast you on this earth if you don't break it (say by knocking a lamp over).

NEVER buy an LED bulb without knowing color. 3,000 - 3,500 K is warm white (yellowish, usually favored for residential interior), 4,000 - 4,500 K is white tending to blue (good for office work, production line or warehouse, security light), 5,000 to 6,000 K is bluish (security light? I would avoid 6,000). The higher colors also tend to have 10% or so higher lumens outputs for same wattage in LED bulbs.

At present (February, 2010) LED bulbs produce about 35 lumens per watt, with light wanting to be projected in a linear fashion. A 65-watt par 30 incandescent light bulb produces about 700 lumens projected in a diffuse fashion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the small area where a light is needed on all the time., July 28, 2007

I'm on a energy efficiency mission. Upon moving into our recent house, I switched everything (my wife would allow) to florescent or compact florescent. Now I am looking to replace the remaining that is on dimmer or that we need to leave on for extended periods of time.

This works great in the bathroom as a night light and in the hallways. That's what I use it for. Its enough to see and be safe. The output is equivalent to a 40 watt normal bulb. We are very happy with the performance.

The manufacturer must have made modifications since the previous reviews. Our bulb has a refractive globe which diffuses the light in all directions rather than just shining downward.

If you are looking to guide in aircraft, this is not your bulb. If this is what you are looking for, wait for the "Geobulb" by the same company. It is expected to hit the market Fall 2007.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very low output, similar to 20w incandescent, but works with X10 - FAILED AFTER 3months, June 4, 2009

I use several 40w incandescent bulbs around the house in multi-bulb fixtures - some pointing at art on the walls. This LED unit has about half, or less, light output compared to any of the 40w incandescents. And, as has already been mentioned the color is a harsh blue-white. It does dim with an X10 LM465 Lamp Module, but it stays on very, very dimly when the module is off (probably due to the LM465's sense current). In summary, this unit is only worth being used as a night light, or possibly in a gooseneck fixture 6 inches from your head pointing directly at whatever you may want to read. Also, it does get a bit warm when on - nowhere near as hot as a regular incandescent bulb, but it does not run totally cool.

UPDATE: This unit failed after 3 months of use.

I bought 2 of these at a very bargain price. Both failed to turn on after only a couple of weeks. LEDs are supposed to last around 100,000 hours. So, it maybe not the LEDs but the way it was manufactured. It also not very bright for such a number of LEDs in it.

I purchased this bulb Oct. 5,2008, and it went out July 10, 2009, I don't believe this bulb is a good buy, I will not purchase anymore if this is the life of the bulb.

Not a replacement for a flourescent bulb! the advertised savings aren't really there with these bulbs. I bought some and was disappointed when they didn't give the same amount of light as a $.99 nite light. I cannot even read by their light, these bulbs are so dim! I love the idea of these things, and I'll have to see what products are out there which can outlast flourescent bulbs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent energy-saving bulb, November 12, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CC.Vivid Plus 36-LED Light Bulb (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought the CC Vivid 36 LED bulb and the Westinghouse Nanolux LED bulb at the same time to see which would work better as a low-power porch light. Even though both are rated at 3 Watts, the CC Vivid is noticeably brighter (though still not much) and has a 60,000 hour expected life-span instead of 50,000 for the Nanolux. However, it has a sharper cut-off due to the design of its base and is significantly more expensive. Since I have both, the CC Vivid wins as the porch light, while the Nanolux might make adequate accent lighting.
