5.0 out of 5 stars Another spot on Exam Cram title
I was able to "fill in the blanks" left by other training materials (videos) with this book. As usual, the Exam Cram series hits everything you NEED to know for the test without going over hundreds of pages of minutia and drivel you may or may not see on the test.

Memorizing a 500+ page MS press or Cisco press book has its merits yes... but when you rarely...

2.0 out of 5 stars Riddled With Errors
In my first day reading this book I found an error. It was just a simple typo but when you are dealing with networks and subnetting you cannot have these errors in the study material. As I continued to read I found several more errors. I've taken the Cisco courses at college and just got this to help me get ready for the exam as it's been a few months. Since I have...

This review is from: CCENT Exam Cram (exam 640-822) (Paperback)
I was able to "fill in the blanks" left by other training materials (videos) with this book. As usual, the Exam Cram series hits everything you NEED to know for the test without going over hundreds of pages of minutia and drivel you may or may not see on the test.

Memorizing a 500+ page MS press or Cisco press book has its merits yes... but when you rarely if ever use that entire batch of knowledge in real life scenarios and it's impossible for it to ALL be on the test, my feeling is learn what you need, pass the test, and keep doing a great job in the REAL WORLD on whatever projects and support tasks your employer assigns you.

This is a 5-star rating because I passed the test after only 8 hours spent doing the practices tests and exams at the end of the chapters and the end of the book, reading the book cover to cover, and then doing the practice tests again. And I'm a bit slow at reading comprehension so your results will vary and will most likely be better than mine :)

Thank you for reading this review and hopefully it positively influences your decision whether or not to purchase this book as you pursue your CCENT certification.

Given that this is an Exam Cram title for the CCENT exam you would expect that it would walk you through the basics of networking etc to prepare you for the exam. Be warned, if you have no prior networking knowledge the book will make no sense to you. I have a firm basic understanding of networking concepts so the book worked well for me in preparation for the CCENT exam. It uses acronyms and assumes you know the basics, if you don't, it will make no sense.

So in summary, if you have already been through a study program and need and refresher/exam cram, this book is excellent but however it is not suitable for beginners.

Don't use it as you main source but very good for review. I had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised.

2.0 out of 5 stars Riddled With Errors, November 27, 2010

In my first day reading this book I found an error. It was just a simple typo but when you are dealing with networks and subnetting you cannot have these errors in the study material. As I continued to read I found several more errors. I've taken the Cisco courses at college and just got this to help me get ready for the exam as it's been a few months. Since I have already gone over the material, it was fairly easy for me to spot the errors but for newcomers this book would simply do more harm than good. Very poor editing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what it seems!!!!, April 23, 2010

Bought this book because of a review from one of their other books on another site. I used it and it did not contain near the content that you need to pass this certification. There is a summary of information that is supposedly important to know but very little of it was actually on the test.
