Good general coverage but not CCIE material,

This review is from: CCIE Prep Kit 350-001 Routing and Switching (Exam Guide) (Paperback)
I took the CCIE written this afternoon after reading this book cover to cover. I had taken about 200 pages of notes (front and back) from both this book and the CCIE McGraw Hill book. I also have near 1000 pages of notes from the CCNP and CCDP testing curriculum that I completed a month ago. This book alone WILL NOT provide the necessary information to pass this exam. It is a general overview of the topics that can be covered. The Cisco Press books, which I have read, cover to cover will still not cover all the holes but you will have a good chance of passing. I made the grade but I personally like a little more room in my scores. The 350-001 is not an in depth test like the ACRC exam. You realize this as soon as you start reading this book. It's a more broad coverage of networking. Yes, there is a confidentiality agreement in place so that's about all I can say. The volume of material that can be covered is very wide. Prepare for the worst and be prepared to take it a few times if necessary. There are MANY errors and contradictions in this book. I would say roughly there are about 20+ errors, big errors.... MAJOR ERRORS... For a general overview this book is fine. For the CCIE written, no way. Read the McGraw Hill CCIE study Guide cover to cover. Read the Cisco Press ACRC book cover to cover. They are both on Amazon. If you can crack walnuts single-handed from writing an inch of notes you may be ready. None of these questions are really hard. You just need to be exposed to the topics before sitting in front of the terminal. For others who say this book is the best thing since the demise of VINES I would lend caution. I've been there and done that several time. It's not going to happen. Pulsar48@webbox.com

Good book for prepared reader,
This review is from: CCIE Prep Kit 350-001 Routing and Switching (Exam Guide) (Paperback)
I just passed successfuly CCIE written and checked this book again. Yes it's a very good review of possible subjects and areas but it's not a tutorial. I couldn't find answer for at least 30% questions from the real exam in this book. Even if I were able to bring this book with me it wouldn't help. The only complete source is univer cd - I found answers to everything there. But all areas except probably of Erlang B was mentioned in this book. And CD ROM is very good. Real exam included many questions exactly from CD. But it was not the most difficult ones :)I'd say that you can use this book as 'extended' blueprint to check what you should study and get some clue about required level. But you should also learn a lot of details from other sources. It's roughly CCNP level (similar to FRS exam) and if you just got CCNP recently and read this book it may be enough. Moral: This book is a very good reference for prepared reader but it's not a networking tutorial. You should study networking somewhere else and then check your knowledge using this book. Good luck!

Excellent - not too much or too little info - just right!,
This review is from: CCIE Prep Kit 350-001 Routing and Switching (Exam Guide) (Paperback)
I found this book very well written. Even though there were many contributors, it seems very cohesive, with good explanations. Use this book to formulate the BIG picture. You'll still need others for in-depth details. However, this is just what Que was trying to do, and they've succeeded. (One caveat: proxy ARP explanation is INCORRECT! Refer to Doyle, Slattery or Chappell for correct explanation of proxy ARP.)
