As good as you can get for a dry subject,

This is one of the better study aids, but as with all study aids it is boring to read. It may just be me, but I hate to read anything like this, but I have to keep my certs. It is up to date with the latest verion of the test and very informative. It will make a great companion to use along side the bigger complete CCNA test prep books and also to use in the field when you need to remember those odd commands.

Wish I had a book like this last year when I was attempting to pass my exam(s), it is my goal for next year. I was really surprised by the size of it, being so thin, yet packed with useful information that will make any person just starting (or not) supporting cisco devices wished they had at their disposal for quickly finding the proper sequence when their memory doesn't want to cooperate with them and its much easier than finding the info through Cisco's web site or through the help menu on the device. This will definitely help with a quick tune up just prior to the exam. I've never used flash cards but I would probably say it would be very similar to that.I posted this info on Certcities.com and one of the guys there asked if it was the same as http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1587131595/002-0029014-1337631?v=glance&n=283155&n=193977&s=books&v=glance and it does appear to be very similar. Had I known about the other book before I would have got it too for my library. I'd give it a thumbs up for a very good quick reference guide to everything I wanted to know.

I would have loved this book while I was still studying for my CCNA. I grabbed this, because I thought it would be like a command dictionary. It's more of a step-by-step for beginners. I would Cisco made a CCNP portable command guide.

Portable command guide,

This portable command guide is a must for anyone working with CISCO switches and routers. I used this command guide as part of my study for the CCNA, but have also found this book an excellent referral for everyday work. This guide describes everything from configuring a switch at start up to setting up both standard and extended access lists. Routing protocols are also covered, showing you the actual commands required.

This little book is what every CCNA should own! It is a great reference not only for exam study but while on the job. I keep one at my desk when I need to look up a command. Its small size lends itself to carrying around.I like the fact that it gives full configuration examples and also makes mention of optional commands for the configuation. It can be quite tedious to use the Cisco website and this book fills a much needed void.

A Must Have,

If you are taking the Cisco Academy classes, you will wonder why this book is not a required text. I sure did. One of the other students in the class bought one in and, after taking a look at it, I ordered myself a copy the next week. The book very clearly lays out, with examples, the commands needed to configure Cisco routers and switches. The text does not give you detailed background as to what all the commands mean and the various options for each command, so you will still need to "know your stuff" in order to get the desired results. However, if you are like me and spend time trying to remember the right words to type in on the less common configurations, this is a great tool to quickly get you to the "Oh, yeah! Now I remember."

This book is an excellent companion to the CCNA offical course. I use it almost daily when configuring the lab routers. It was well worth the cash outlay.

I am a CCNA instructor and I own a previous edition of this book in soft cover; it is excellent and my students find that it helps them mentally organize the CLI. I downloaded the Kindle DX version of the newest edition and it nicely summarizes the new material in both the CCNA Exploration and Discovery curricula. The only reason I did not give it a five-star rating is that the images that contain tables and text in the Kindle version are not crisp. They appear in gray scale and look like a scanned version of a color page. The CCNA texts books use lots of green-gray in their images and many don't show well in the Kindle version. I even tried landscape and zoom but some of the image text is still not legible, otherwise, it beats lugging 30 pounds of text books to class every day! Both my students and I are waiting for the Kindle DX version of the CCNA textbooks.
