Having trouble passing the CCNA exam? Need to find equipment but can't afford the costs? Want to have several different routers to work with? Think you'll need a new lab? Well Cisco Press may have taken the trouble to help you out more than you know.

With the software there was absolutely no trouble installing and I installed it on Windows 98, NT, 2000 and XP, each worked flawlessly. After the install you need the cd to run which should be changed in future releases.

Once installed you are ready to begin, although you do need to give the host of the console an IP address first and this too needs to be corrected. Seems to work far better that other routers eSIM since is isn't database driven but Flash driven. Giving you every possible help, the commands that are useful are bolded, aiding in the learning process.

There are 3 scenarios, scenario 1 is 5 router and 10 hosts. Although switches are included you can not configure them which I think would be very useful. In scenario 2 you work with switches and VLANS and 2 is intra-Vlan routing. You have several labs for each scenario and you can always make up your own.

The second cd included has over 100 activities and not all relate to CCNA but you'll find them useful for other things related to networking. There is also over 200 flash cards to study from and about the only problem I found is that you have to enter the full command rather than the shorter version.

There is some cleanup needed but you should be able to pass the exam with this one. Now tailor the ICND and CCNA courseware to this eSim and you have a sure fire winner.

The main reason I obtained the product was because purchasing 5 routers and three switches was out of the question. The three simulated network scenarios were a good way to get "seat time." The simulation scenarios do have some bugs and some limitations. I was very pleasantly surprised with the 120 e-Lab activities, 200 CCNA flashcard questions, and especially the video lessons on CD2. CD2 was worth the price of the product. In addition to this simulation software, I used Odom's CCNA Cert Guide (2nd Ed). OBTW...I passed the test with a 978.

I just bought this software and it seemed perfect to practice with routers and switches, but the scenarios don't save well, the computers reboots, the serial interfaces don't get up. I have requested the patches for the 3 scenarios, I hope to receive them soon.
These problems appears with Windows 98. I tested on Windows Xp machines, and the scenarios saved ok.

This software covers all the hands-on labs required to pass the 640-607 exam. I used it to prepare for the exam and cruised through the simulations questions. If you need flexibility in what you can create in terms of topology then get something else.

This CCNA eSIM is the perfect tool to prepare you for the cisco 640-607 exam, the interface is the same as the simulations you will encounter on the exam itself.

The software provided is extremely buggy. You will likely acquire an incorrect understanding of router configuration by using this product, which seems never to have been tested. Scenarios do not save properly, enabled functionality is very limited, routing does not function correctly, etc. Don't waste your money on this product on which I will waste no more words.

Regardless of which technology you are working on to certify your skills it is always benefitial to have atleast a limited time demo of the software. In this case purchasing switches or routers for the test was a little pricey as the class and study materials were expensive enough.
This CCNA exam was designed for entry level cisco router and switch operation and this CD does just that. It resembles a typing tutor more so than anything else but asks you to do certain things, whether it be configure an IP address for a particular interface or simply create a secret password.
In short, it will allow you to become familiar with the key commands you'll need for the exam and that is all it will do.
If you have the money to buy the actual hardware that is always the best solution but seldom the most practical for most users.
Good study tool combined with the exam notes and the CBT Nuggets training cd's. Can't go wrong.

For the price, I think this software is a benefit to have but it does leave a lot to be desired. This software should only be used as a supplement and not as a cheap substitute for real Cisco gear. The software is limited as far as available commands and functionality. It is also somewhat buggy. One of my biggest complaints is that you are limited to the menu-driven interface for the switches (which is even more limited in functionality). The real exam tests on the CLI aspect of the 1900 series and 2950 switches, so this software really doesn't apply to the exam as far as switch configuration. The software is relatively inexpensive, but I wouldn't buy it again.
