Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Designed as a portable review guide for the Cisco 640-403 Advanced Cisco Router Configuration examination, this title boils an enormous amount of material down to a series of bulleted lists and conceptual summaries. CCNP Exam Notes: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration is a useful companion to more structured classroom study or Sybex's more intensive Study Guide.

The small format paperback follows the stated objectives of the Cisco certification exam. Each chapter groups related objectives and drills down to present the important terms and concepts behind each of them. Although brief explanatory text accompanies each concept, the structure is best utilized as a jumping-off point for further study with other resources. The chapters frequently include a "Necessary Procedures" section that offers a brief list of the types of operations you should be prepared to perform. In this book, these procedures are most frequently router configuration commands.

Sample questions anchor each chapter, but there are usually only one or two to test your knowledge. As a review tool, this book complements the related Sybex Study Guide for this exam well. It's also a handy text for working network professionals who possess the knowledge but need a review for certification. --Stephen W. Plain

Topics covered: Network scalability, traffic and access management, VLSMs, OSPF, EIGRP, network to ISP implementation, WAN connectivity, DDR, bridging, and managing AppleTalk traffic.

3.0 out of 5 stars I studied primarily from this book and failed, November 24, 1999

First off, I felt there were many errors in this book. However, I don't think the errors as a whole really contributed to me not passing. The ACRC test is truly hard, and for someone without that much experience even harder. I thought this book would have given all I needed to know, however a number of the questions on the exam(especially one fill in) wasn't even in the book. I wish I had taken the advice of a friend who told me to focus on the actual course material most of all. Duh, I thought I could simplify and just read this book. Overall I like Lammle's writing, but this time I don't think he covered all the bases as well as he did in his CCNA exam notes book. -Andy Crefeld, a_crefeld@yahoo.com

I only used this book and the Sybex ACRC Study Guide to study for my test and passed the ACRC exam the first time. Cheers!

5.0 out of 5 stars I passed the ACRC and this book made it possible., October 16, 1999

I appreciated the way Todd wrote the ACRC exam notes book. All of the cisco stated objectives were addressed in order within a concise, understandable format. By reading 25-50 pages a day over 10 days I had a manageable and comprehensive review. Coupled with hands on router experience/self-study exercises I felt confident going into this exam. Passing my ACRC exam on the first attempt felt great. I had the same results with the CCNA exam and the CCNA exam notes book that Todd Lammle published. Even though the format and content may change in the future, Todd covers the basics and practical Internetworking material that won't change. On a side note the copy I originally ordered had problems. I wrote Todd email letting him know. Between him and his editor Linda Lee, my issue was resolved in time for my exam date, within two weeks of first writing. I can't thank Todd enough for the series and Sybex (Linda Lee) for their support. I will review the CIT exam notes when I receive it and take that exam also. Thanks again Todd, The CCNP doesn't seem such a distant a goal anymore!
