Now in Paperback!

The best-selling CD-Art captures the finest CD cover and packaging design from around the world, and provides an international showcase of innovative work. This timely updated version of the original hardcover book looks at developments in the music industry today, and includes new work produced for the growing download and interactive market.

The book looks at the ways in which designers excite the senses of sight and touch to create a fuller experience of a product more commonly associated with sound. Through a wealth of case studies, it shows how designers exploit the two- and three-dimensional qualities of CD packaging to create unique, collectable items. It explores not only the traditional elements of design-image, illustration, typography, and packaging-but also innovative materials. Case studies look at how artwork is selected, created, and applied to CD packages; how designers make the most of the standard dimensions for CD packages; and at the use of special formats, unusual materials, slipcases, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great designs, great writeup, February 7, 2009
This review is from: CD-Art: Innovation in CD Packaging Design (Paperback)
Length:: 0:17 Mins

This is a small handbook-sized design book.

At 176 pages, it contains enough CD art to serve as a reference book. The best part of the book is actually the captions provided for the featured designs. They explain the goals and concepts behind, which set the readers thinking.

Also included are interviews with several designers on the challenges faced in this particular design medium.

It's a nice book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Inspiring, April 19, 2006

Great book. A big variety of examples. This book is not about the images which you can on a regular cd sleeves. You won't find here any covers of gangster-rap grills close-up and other bs. This book is about a different way to approach a cd packaging, new ways of expressing the product (music) through the actual cd "cases". Highly recommend for a personal library.
plus don't forget to check out the actual bands and music, most of it is a-rated.
