Book Description

Based on the research presented in the authors groundbreaking work "Clinical Wisdom and Interventions in Critical Care", this highly interactive computer program takes the user through a single case, as it moves through the emergency department, OR, PACU, and ICU. The program will teach the user how to identify salient clinical problems through observation and reflection on the kinds of judgment and actions exhibited by expert, acute and critical care nurses. There are pauses in the action to allow the user to consult additional clinical information and record their own perceptions and insights. A printed "Instructors Manual", written by Dr. Benner, will describe the program and show how it can be used in courses focused on clinical judgment and also as a model for staff development activities for nurses in practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful reference book, May 9, 2001
I bought this book as a registered nurse that is fairly new to the critical care field, and the first night I had it, it came in handy. By reading a few pages before going to work about being a "detective" to find out the cause of changes in a pt's condition, I was able to avert a more serious complication. I enjoyed the narrative descriptions by nurses in various settings of the critical care field, how the situations were handled, and how they could have improved them. I highly recommend this book not only for the veteran nurse, but for all the new nurses out there!! It will better your thinking skills, and improve your care overall!!
