best kitchen meat thermometer,

This very straight forward meat thermometer allows you to pre-set the alarm to sound when the desired internal termperature is reached, all without openining the oven door. The 45 inch cable datches from the meter for easy cleaning (I just soak the probe end only with my roasting pan). This is not complicated, because this is only a thermometer, no timer, etc. One side of the meter reads the actual temperature of the probe (inserted into the meat) and the other side is where you set your goal temperature. You set your desired temperature by simply pushing Up or Down. The only other button is "stop" to turn off the alarm (Note: make sure you have the alarm-- called "alert" set to on, I just keep mine in the "on" position, even when I store it). I came back to order one for my friend's birthday and one for my mother who will be visiting next week.

I've had this thermometer for a bit over a year now. Sometimes it works for a while. I've never been able to keep it working for more than 20 minutes before it freaks out and the dial goes to "hot" or "error". Once it freaks, it usually is done for the day --turning it off, removing the battery, removing and replacing the probe has no effect.Sometimes it won't work from the start, though most often it registers for 5 minutes or so. When it does register, it's pretty fast and accurate, but that's not much use when it so seldom works at all. I'm sticking with my good old Taylor dial thermometers until I see an electronic or an "instant-read" type with at least 20 rave reviews!

I've had this thermometer for about 6 months, and haven't had any problems yet. It's been a big help for keeping meat tender without having to worry if it's cooked enough. I also like how the cord is long enough to stretch from the oven to the countertop, so I can leave the thermometer in the meat without having to open the oven to check the temp.
