5.0 out of 5 stars best kitchen meat thermometer
This very straight forward meat thermometer allows you to pre-set the alarm to sound when the desired internal termperature is reached, all without openining the oven door.
The 45 inch cable datches from the meter for easy cleaning (I just soak the probe end only with my roasting pan).
This is not complicated, because this is only a thermometer, no timer, etc...

1.0 out of 5 stars Another useless CDN thermometer!
I've had this thermometer for a bit over a year now. Sometimes it works for a while. This very straight forward meat thermometer allows you to pre-set the alarm to sound when the desired internal termperature is reached, all without openining the oven door.
The 45 inch cable datches from the meter for easy cleaning (I just soak the probe end only with my roasting pan).
This is not complicated, because this is only a thermometer, no timer, etc. One side of the meter reads the actual temperature of the probe (inserted into the meat) and the other side is where you set your goal temperature.
You set your desired temperature by simply pushing Up or Down. The only other button is "stop" to turn off the alarm (Note: make sure you have the alarm-- called "alert" set to on, I just keep mine in the "on" position, even when I store it).
I came back to order one for my friend's birthday and one for my mother who will be visiting next week.

I've had this thermometer for a bit over a year now. Sometimes it works for a while. I've never been able to keep it working for more than 20 minutes before it freaks out and the dial goes to "hot" or "error". Once it freaks, it usually is done for the day --turning it off, removing the battery, removing and replacing the probe has no effect.

Sometimes it won't work from the start, though most often it registers for 5 minutes or so. When it does register, it's pretty fast and accurate, but that's not much use when it so seldom works at all.

I'm sticking with my good old Taylor dial thermometers until I see an electronic or an "instant-read" type with at least 20 rave reviews!

I've had this thermometer for about 6 months, and haven't had any problems yet. It's been a big help for keeping meat tender without having to worry if it's cooked enough. I also like how the cord is long enough to stretch from the oven to the countertop, so I can leave the thermometer in the meat without having to open the oven to check the temp.

1.0 out of 5 stars Our second CDN thermometer FAILURE., April 5, 2010

After about a year of use, our first CDN digital probe thermometer model DTTC started to give inconsistent temperature readings and we felt the user interface was overly complicated, so we purchased this model. This model has a very simple user interface that we found easy to use. We were very pleased the first three times we used it, however on the fourth use it TOTALLY FAILED IN TWO SEPERATE WAYS:
1) It beeped at an indicated 175 degrees instead of the 140 degrees it was set to.
2) When we took the roast out of the oven, we used a traditional meat thermometer to determine the actual temp was 120 degrees not 175 degrees.

We will not be purchasing another CDN brand thermometer.

This thing worked for ten minutes and then it decided that my room temperature was 217F. I removed the battery, the probe, turned it back on and it was still on 217. When I took a temperature of some water I was heating (probably about 150F) it read 256F. Also, I did not see where you turn it off and it doesn't turn off by itself. I guess you have to take the battery out every time when you're done. It doesn't deserve any stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still ticking after three years, March 11, 2007

I've had this thermometer for almost three years with no problems. My concern about battery life (there is no way to turn the unit off) has proven unfounded as the first battery I put in lasted over two years. Works well for the grill, in the oven, and in frying oil. Note that if the unit goes out of calibration (mine has not), there is a function to recalibrate the temperature.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst thermometer ever!, December 27, 2010
This review is from: CDN DTP392 Digital Probe Thermometer (Kitchen)
This thermometer told me my roast was at 160 degrees in the center with several tries. I ended up cooking it 2 more hours and it was still rare. Then I tested it in tap hot water and it measured at 114 degrees. There's no way my tap hot water is that hot. I give up. This thing is going back. What a waste of $22.95 at my local store. I'm shopping on Amazon for this kind of stuff so I can read ratings.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked great for about an hour, August 2, 2010
This review is from: CDN DTP392 Digital Probe Thermometer (Kitchen)
Bought this thermometer to use when home-brewing beer. Used it one time according to the instructions, and after one hour of use, it lost its little mind and started registering over 300 degrees when measuring something I knew to be at 170 degrees. I double-checked with another thermometer, and it was actually 168 degrees. This thermometer now sits in its magnet case on my fridge, reading 240 degrees in my 72 degree house.

I guess it's my reminder to always have a backup plan.

I have sent a contact email to the company but have not yet received a reply. Hopefully, they will make good on their 5 year warranty. If not, I would definitely invest in a different thermometer next time.

An excellent item. Works very nicely. We cook a turkey on a Webber bar-b-que and other meat thermometers smoke up and make monitoring very difficult. With this unit the thermometer stays outside and away from the smoke. Also, the set and actual temperatures are displayed, most helpful. The alarm feature is an added plus. After my first purchase, I bought several more for family members. Highly recommend.
