5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate and Sturdy May 7, 2010
By MDM

I purchased two of these, to double-check the accuracy. They consistently "tracked" together through many uses. Now have one in each of my ovens. I also work in many different kitchens, so these go with me everywhere. Most oven thermostats are at least 25 to 50 degrees in error (even in "high-end" ovens), and this thermometer helps ensure consistent results every time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good design October 20, 2010

I bought this to test my oven. I learned that the temp. of my electric oven is correct but takes twice as long to warm up. That's worth knowing. The digital on my oven says 'preheat' and them beeps when ready. It is off by almost 6 minutes.
This unit is small, easy to read and it can stand on a rack or hang under a rack.
I didn't really need this anymore after testing my oven so I gave it to a neighbor. It is presently making the rounds in the neighborhood.
The only complaint is some sharp edges. I didn't cut myself but I could have.

2.0 out of 5 stars No longer top choice of Cook's Illustrated. August 5, 2011
While this CDN oven thermometer WAS a former favorite of "Cook's Illustrated" in new tests(Jan & Feb 2011 issue)... it was a fourth-place finish "numbers fade over time, plus new copies purchased for our testing were off by five degrees" according to Cook's Illustrated testers. The current top rated oven thermometer is Cooper-Atkins Oven Thermometer which they described as "sturdy, accurate and cheap [$5.95]. After six months, the face was still legible and readings remained "spot-on".

5.0 out of 5 stars High Heat oven thermometer January 7, 2010

I purchased this thermometer to use in a mud oven I made that reaches temps over 600 degrees. So far (used 4 times) it works great. I have only had the oven up to 550* but this thermometer is great to see the temp. I recommend it.

This little thermometer is small and durable. It tracks my digitally-controlled oven to a T. It's an amazing value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly useful April 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Why oh why didn't I buy this years ago? I could have avoided burning the Thanksgiving ham last year, that's for sure.

Just stick this in your oven, and make sure to check it often and take note of how your oven behaves.

As an example, here is what I found out about my oven: it takes longer than I thought to preheat (almost 20 minutes), but after 30-40 minutes it is about 25 degrees hotter than I set the dial, and after 45-60 minutes it runs a full 50 degrees hot.

Which is why I never really noticed before, I rarely bake things for so long. But you can see how a 5 hour roast would be a huge problem without knowing this. Likewise you can see how the 5th batch of cookies might burn if you leave it in as long as the 1st batch without adjusting the temperature.

Now I just adjust the dial accordingly and have no more problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate, but Hard to Read January 14, 2011
By B. Hare

While this has worked well for me, as other reviewers have stated - it is VERY hard to read from behind the glass window in the oven door. I struggle to read it even with the oven door open. So, while it does appear to be accurate, it is very hard to read to confirm that. I would not order this one again if I had the chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars It can't be me March 26, 2011

OK, I've been baking in a new stove. Bread still raw inside. Same with the cakes. Potato casseroles very crunchy. I blamed the thermostat on the oven. Must be off 50-degrees or more, right?
I bought this thermometer to prove just how inaccurate my oven was. It wasn't. Whoops.
This thermometer has made me look bad, very, very bad.
I'm now trying to blame the recipes for having misprints. It is not working.
I will give it 5 stars, but only reluctantly and with a few choice words under my breath.
