Purchased this product along with the CDN ProAccurarte. This one to use near the stove/oven. The other to use primarily arround the grill and elsewhere. Initial use of this thermometer left a good impression. The response time was not instant, more like 10 seconds or so. I liked the sharp point for internal measurement on meats but it is hard to determine just where the sensor is in this part of the probe.-i.e at the very tip, middle or the entire length of the 3/4" probe tip. (That is a concern for the other, upper end product too.) But..

It didn't last 2 weeks. As I said, using it around the stove for everything from chicken breasts to alfredo sauce, having it hanging nearby was handy. However, it does get dirty and I do believe it needs to be cleaned. Which I accomplished by dipping the metal probe into soapy water and giving it a gentle scrub, being very careful not to immerse the plastic handle-electronics and then drying it gently. About the 10th time I did this the entire metal probe separated from the plastic body shredding the connection and ruining this thermometer. It was not repairable and when I looked at the contruction of the device- it, the metal probe extending from the plastic, electronic, plastic part of the thermometer was secured with a minuscule drop of what appeared to be "hot glue". Overall, in my opinion very poor quality construction. It was not made to last. It didn't.

Satisfied with the Pro-Accurate Quickread so far. But I am being very careful with it as I am sure it shares a common manufactor. Caveat! Emptor!

I have the "gold standard" Thermapen. I bought the CDN because my family doesn't use thermometers for BBQ'ing. They just cook the crap out of everything. So I bought this whilst on holiday. I was looking for a Thermapen but only found this in the local stores. When I returned home I compared the CDN to the Thermapen and was really impressed with how well it performed. The CDN was consistently 3 degrees higher than the Thermapen and to be fair it was a little slower to find the temp and hunted a little bit more. It was possibly only a second or two to reach proper temp. It was consistently within 3-5 degrees of the Thermapen from 80-215. Boiling water on the Thermapen showed 211 and the CDN showed 213-214.

I cannot comment on the reliability of the CDN product as I have only just acquired it. It feels a bit cheap. I had to fumble with the battery making proper contact and I'm uncertain of it's water resistance, I suspect it to be inferior. Otherwise I feel this will be of great use for visiting my folks and avoiding steak briquets.

I would recommend this product to an average user. At 20 dollars you can buy five instead of one Thermapen.

Love this item. Bought for my husband, and as a gift for my brother-in-law. Takes the guess work out of when meat is done, especially when you have mutliple people who like their steaks done different ways - medium, medium-well, well done. Also, no guessing when the chicken is done so no chance of any diseases being passed on! Great for frozen foods that must be cooked to a certain internal temp too!

This thermometer quickly takes a very accurate temperature. It is small, compact, and very easy to use. I especially like the 'hold' feature, so that you can take a temperature, then pull it out and see what the numbers said. This is very convenient so that you can get the right angle into the meat without worrying about having to read the numbers from whatever angle that might be.

i bought this item 2 months ago for school (culinary school). i did my research and thought this would be a good one. and it was for awhile. i don't know what happened this last week but it stopped working. wont take accurate reading. i recalibrated it twice and its still not working right. i had high hopes for this after it made it through candy making with out a problem. all in all a good thermometer, until it breaks.

I never seem to have any luck with tradional manual thermometers. These devices make me a grilling machine. They are fast and accurate.

THis is a fine quick read thermometer although it was not working when I first received it. I mailed it to the service center where they quickly replaced (or repaired) it for free.

I had bought one of these thermometers for my use for outdoor grilling last summer and found it to be a very good product. The initial one I received would not calibrate so I called the CDN customer service number and they sent me a replacement. This one worked to my expectations. I thought it was a nice tool to have for BBQ'ing and I bought each of my "kids" one for Christmas so that they can grill more accurately, with more juicy meat.

Update as of January 12, 2013. This thermometer is still working great. Used extensively for outdoor grilling as originally posted, above. However, have also found that it works great for regular kitchen type cooking - oven and microwave. My wife uses it all the time to check if the meat is cooked to her liking. I also use it for microwaving those single-portion stuffed chicken breasts - with experimentation on our microwave, I found that about 1.5 minutes on one side and then another minute on the other side works to cook to 165 degrees. A quick internal temp check, verifies that it is cooked properly and safe to eat. Love this thermometer!
